worth the trip
The Rose, Brown Eyed Women, Stella, and a great scene in Louisville were the highlights for me of this Freedom Hall show. Like 6/15, the gems here and there were quite worth the trip, but neither of these Freedom Hall shows were the kind of scary, magic Ride I was fortunate to hear/see the band sustain in other shows.

Another Great Kentucky Show part 2
The second night in Louisville's Freedom Hall began with alot of Fear and Loathing for the Law, which had set up and bowled over many the previous night...so the word was out - BEWARE! Inside, the sound was impeccable, as usual. This Soundboard recording highlights Bobby's guitar most, but everything else is perfectly audible also. Hearing what Weir was playing on any given night sometimes got lost in the mix, in fact, watching him (and the drummers, too) often left you wondering who is doing what. Once again, Jerry is in fine form, both vocally and guitar-wise (they probably loved playing indoors during the summer tour). Most of the Jerry tunes are phenomenal, with a sweet Trumpet MIDI part during Ramble on Rose around the
4:40 mark. Not only did the guitar sound like a trumpet, but Jer begins playing short, sharp runs LIKE a trumpet player...just outstanding! Other reviews have touched on Foolish, Saint and Stella....and I agree with their praise of these versions. The encore of I Fought The Law was a not-so-subtle warning of the target on the back of DeadHeads during those last years. Don't Step On the Grass, Sam!

Best Corinna
...yes, that's what I said. Now then, are you ready for this?...please be seated...are you sitting down?...good, please make sure that the chair is steady and sturdy...okay then, here it comes...take a deep breath Jeff...courage, resolve, strength....one more moment please, these things take time...phew, dang this is harder than I thought it'd be...okay, here we go....
I like Corinna.
There, I said it.
Yes, the lyrics are fucking stupid (does Looks Like Rain come to mind?) but musically this song is really cool, and they always seem to pull it off without a flub. And yes, to this day we make endless fun of the chorus ("Fahita-a-a-a-a-a-a...chicken or beef!") and the "cheese it up Bobby" t-shirt remains one of my tour favorites of all time, but by golly, it is still fun to listen to and you can even dance to it.
Moving on...the rest of the second set is pretty solid...Foolish Heart has a real solid beat to it although Jerry doesn't take it to the far-away places that he has before or since...Saint is great...Stella is the best of the era (the MIDI bells are totally dosed) and the drums/space is to die for.
The first set is total Snoresville, so unless you need a good nights sleep don't bother downloading it.
I know that a lot of us don't drop any more (I sure don't) but this second set is worth the flashback...simply fast for at least 24 hours and the 'cid that has been stored in your body fat will enter your system...smoke a joint and >bang< ! ....a poor man's trip.
Enjoy.
The four stars are for the 2nd set. That first set gets one star.

Excellent second set...
The first set here is sort of forgettable, but the second set is magic. The "Foolish Heart" and "Stella Blue" are especially strong.

Good Show
The band must have needed practice with Don't Ease Me In. Played it two nights in a row. The Freedom Hall shows were decent, and a had a good crowd.

The Most Beautiful Stella Blue
This show was my second to last show before I had to go away for a few years. Stella Blue has always been a personal favorite. The show was alright until Jerry went off vocally & instrumentally on Stella..It brought me to tears & still does to this day. This would be my last Stella live and that night Jerry played it just for me in my hometown...Thank You Jerry I sure do miss your Music!

Saint Of Circumstance
The Saint was by far the Highlight of this solid performance. They just nailed it. Garcia is extremley aggressive and his licks are as fast as 1985. Also won of the finest Lazy River Road too. Peggy-o and Brown eyed women are smokers. I need a Miracle and Stella Blue are both hot. Particularly Stella one of the best of the year.
