This is the cleanest soundboard of this show
The others have some nasty distortion in spots. Not this one. Great show. Keeper for sure. Fun reading the comments of the lucky people who were there.

Waiting in line
When tix for this show went on sale, I went to line up for tickets at the Fox at what I thought was an early time - around 8am. The line already stretched out the front of the theater, down Ponce and on to W. Peachtree. My dog Satchmo and I got close to the front of the line around noon and they ran out of tickets. A black kid was offering two for sale - I think I paid him $30 or $40 each for tix with a face value of around $20.
Night of the show was fantastic - great venue for a show and a super enthusiastic show. I met this guy with no ticket in the lobby. He'd dressed as an usher, and just bum rushed his way in - no one went after him. The bathrooms at the Fox are fantastic and folks were just hang ing out in there taking in the theater's details. Took Marta up to Buckhead after the show and spent the rest of the night at Aunt Charley's.

Whoa what a show! Hot Stranger, amazing FOTD, smoking Half Step, great Franklins, drippy Crazy Finger leading to an Other One inspired Jam make this one hell of a show. Will definitely crank this one up again again and again

Two songs in and I am amazed.
I had given up on the Dead after '84. The magic was gone. Jerry was looking pretty bad… I came back when Hornsby was in, and saw a few great shows in '91. By '93, I was gone again.
But this, THIS is sharp and hot. Crisp. Sound is incredible (I am listening with some good headphones.) I know there are good shows in all eras (well, fuck '94 and '95, but every other year), and this one is one. Only other '85 show I've heard that comes close to this musical quality is one of those Meriwether shows.
Can't wait to hear the 2nd set everyone is raving about! Nice!
Four stars because despite how great this is, it STILL isn't, you know, 1972 Dark Star good.

Hell in A Bucket Bobby Scream
I've had this tape since 1985...my first show was the previous night. I've always loved Bobby's scream right after the bridge in Hell in a Bucket. After the last "Yeah, unable to dance I'll crawl" line you can hear him scream as he fades away from the mic. Classic Weir move.

Birthday Show
Sat next to the soundboard in the balcony and shared the evening of my 20th birthday with Dan and Candice (Among others) When the 20 years so far banner came down we were all taking it "personally" The playing was fantastic for both nights. Some of the last small Ttheatre performances.

This was the last of a run of about 50 shows in a row for me, my most shows in any single year. Sadly hearing it here is like hearing it for the first time, as I was really a mess by this point.

best sound quality i've heard
Interesting notes on this show:
- FRANKLIN'S marks the unofficial beginning of the non-Help on the Way/Slipknot late 80s era, as from 3/25/83 up until this night, Franklin's was played only out of Slipnot (with the one exception of 3/13/85). The final Help-Slip-Frank and previous Franklin's was 9/12/85 at the Kaiser, and as many readers know the trio wouldn't be heard from again until 10/8/89 Hampton. The last pairing of Half Step-Franklin's was 10/17/82 Santa Fe, and interestingly Franklin's was only played 4 times in 1985. 1986 would only witness 3 Franklin's, equaling 1975 for the fewest times played in a calendar year.
- SAILOR would only be played 4 more times, ever. Why did they dump this song? Sailor-Saint is one of Swami's all-time favorite combos.
- CRAZY FINGERS hadn't drifted into Drumz since 10/8/83.
- JOHNNY B GOODE hadn't been played as a stand-alone show closer following the Jerry ballad since 12/30/81 Oakland.
All of that in between a smokin hot Stranger to open and a beautiful Brokedown encore, together with the pristine, too-good-to-be-true-but-is sound quality, means that this show is a must have in any collection.

10/28 was widely circulated but this show was not. stranger is one for the headphones! ramble on rose is
hip.weirdness into the half step was dropped on us 2 nights later in sc! crazy fingers is such a sublime tune--wish jerry could've nailed the lyrics more often--he fumbles here badly. st of circumstance is out of sync but the wheel is wee-haw and the other 1 is hip with the healy-tweaking and the swirling-monkish mydland stuff from the period. gotta go watch my baltimore o's get swept by the twins...hold away despair.

Atlanta, we have ignition!
Let me start off by seconding Cap'n Cook and his comments below. I just finished listening to the 1st set, and if the Dr's astute observations have any weight, then i am REALLY looking forward to the 2nd set (hell, who am i kidding ... the Dr. is ALWAYS on the money!). And yes, the 1st was on the short side, but i'm gearing up for great things in the 2nd. FOTD, a song i generally don't get into, was the perfect appetizer for the upcoming main course. Well, let me buckle in and ease the chair back 'cuz the glory is a-comin'!

The End of Estrangement
I went to this show with people who needed to hear it as much as I did. After that, I was a much better person for knowing I wouldn't invite them to a show again. Opening the show with a killer 'stranger' was a cosmic event in some friendships I had outgrown. This was a show I'll never forget for both the music and the event that this show became to me. Thanks, Guys!

This show is the shit. The sailor>saint>crazy fingers>jam is the highlight of the show, but don't forget about the first set. Although the first set is relatively short, every song is disgusting with an all time minglewood and a great later-day FOTD. five stars easily.

Destined for Dick's Picks?
I've cherished the audio tape of this show's second set for nearly 20 years and was totally blown away by the crystal clear recording offered via this soundboard. Certainly a classic second set...what a jam all the way through....not a flaw anywhere.
If you like this one, check out Richmond Coliseum three days later....(aka Dick's Pick #21)...another unbelievable show....both will leave you smiling ear to ear.

I was lucky enough to be there; coolest indoor place I ever saw the Dead play, by a mile. Totally cool ushers who basically just let everyone gather right in front of the stage. Agree that this is one of the best sounding boards in circulation; check out the jam out of Crazy Fingers to really appreciate it.
