Subject: Wrong Franklins?
Subject: Wrong Franklins?
Isn't Franklin's from Dead Set the one from 10/31/81?
Then again, what would I know?
I got busted on the way to this show after getting in an accident ... in the pouring rain on the Merritt Parkway and 'spent the night in jail' (two in fact). And that after sleeping out at Radio City two days for tickets and getting first few rows.
I missed the rest of the run except Halloween when I broke probation lol.
From what everybody said, 10/23 & 10/31 were the best two and I caught both of those.
The acoustic sets were fun, but they seriously sidetracked the electric MONSTER the Grateful Dead were in the second half of 1980.
What could they have done with 25 electric only shows that Fall?
We'll never know.
But a lot of great songs like China Doll, To lay Me Down, Jackeroe and of course Birdsong returned due to the acoustic sets.
So I guess it was worth it in that light.

The bright, upbeat (and lyrically flawless) Franklin's Tower performed this night is the one they chose for Dead Set (albeit edited for brevity). Dead
...
Set is one of the two albums, along with Scull & Roses, that got me into the Dead. Franklin's was my favorite track from Dead Set. Therefore, I attach enormous importance to this great show.

Subject: Thanks For This
It's been a long time since my friend Bill and I hitched a ride from UCONN to catch this show. I was actually waiting in line for Rush tickets at the campus
...
Ticket--- when word spread the Dead were going on sale for Radio City. A change of plans ensued. I think this was originally supposed to be opening nite, but when they sold out so quickly, Friday was added (correct me if wrong).
Anyway, it was a great show, and pix of the scene there don't do it justice. Thanks to the stage guy who picked us up in his VW under a bridge in a downpour and brought us right to the door. What luck that was. Ended up sleeping in a hotel hallway in Stamford on the way back. It was all worth it. I later had to move into IDC dorm as I got more caught up in the waning days of the enlightenment

"To Lay Me Down" was probably one of the most peaceful moments my life has ever experienced. This acoustic set as well as all the others during these
...
shows is something I will NEVER forget.

I've had a problem over and over again, with Ripple, Sat Night and US Blues. When I try to burn the WAV I created from the SHN files they dont burn onto
...
the CD properly. I created many coasters trying to fix it. SHN's work fine in SHNAmp and WAVs play fine too, but when I burn them, they dont take to the CD. Not sure why, but just a word of caution.
I was at this show, it was a good one. This "To Lay Me Down" ended up on Reckoning, and the "Franklin's Tower" ended up on Dead Set.
