Samcigar, I had Jerry stare at me during the Space and ensuing jam on 9/14/91 - perhaps because I was on his side of the stage in the nearest section tripping
...
my balls off & was the only one who didn't sit back down after the band came out, unaware everyone else had sat back down. I'm standing there, waving my hands all over, dancing with my hands to Jerry's playing & he's watching me, digging it. Then, I look around & realize I'm the only person standing in the whole section! Talk about feeling self conscious..... Well, I stayed stsanding & Jerry kept watching....
Well, this show, the Drums > Space just rules - anybody catch the small Cumberland Blues tease at the beginning of space? We got this tape 8 months before they broke out Cumby in Long Beach the following Summer & heard the tease before that - odd coincidence if coincidence it was.
The Wheel before drums is so sweet going into D/S & The Other One after the killer Drums/Space/chanting is odd in that Phil BLASTS the band into a third instrumental after verse two that tears the roof off the joint.
Totally forgotten show for these days, but GREAT.

coppola might have been at the show, but it comes after the rhythm devils sessioned on his film. apocalypse now won the palm d'or in 1979. the sound

track was recorded in 78. check out drums from horton field house 1978 for some fresh cambodian howler monkey-like sounds. 'twas the same era, though, to be sure.
by the way, this november-december '80 stuff rocks.

I too was at this show; it was my third show. The woman singing is Flora Purim, also accompanied by percussionist extraordinaire Airto Moreira. The Drums

and Space at this show was amazing. Sounds of all kinds were everywhere. I THINK that Francis Ford Coppola was at this show to hear them as he ended up working with Mickey for the soundtrack for Apocalypse Now. Maybe someone else can confirm this.
Great show, good sound.

Not perfect, but a good show with lots of energy, and a great set list. Bertha, Greatest, and Althea are all nicely done (though the recording on these
...
first songs are light on Jerry's mic). Good renditions of Bird Song, Passenger, and Candyman. I always like a show with Cold Rain and Snow, and this one doesn't disappoint. Then Jerry smokes on Samson. The band loses cohesion in Estimated coming out of the jam. But it resolves into a sweet Wheel, which ends in a very interesting, quiet jam into Drums. Space is accompanied by an unnamed female vocalist who sounds great--anyone know who she is? Space slowly builds into a fresh-sounding, energetic Other One. This winds down into Stella, Jerry's not in the best voice here, but the playing is good at the end of the song.
The two rockers at the end are musically played and sung, with Brokedown as the cherry on top: a good end to a good show.

My opinion is biased as this was my first show. My brother scored me 1st row center tickets. Unbelievable show, no wonder I was hooked. The eye contact

with the band was increadable. I remember watching Jerry fiddling with the knobs of his guitar with his pinkie inbetween notes. He blew my mind with Estimated Prophet, I distinctly remember him laughing at me at the look on my face. The sound quality of the cd is great, the song mix was kind of unusual. The show was great.
