15 minute Bird Song
Check out the SAMSON
They were a tighter jam band with Hornsby.!

Smoking Hot in the desert
First shows to see after Tinley Park in July, then losing Brent my ship was adrift. These two set the stage for three bitter cold nights in Denver. All five barnburnin’ smokin HOT shows to point the ship in the right direction. I would give it a 25 if they would throw up that may stars.

Great Uptempo Show
A personal favorite from the c. two dozen shows I saw in 1990 was the second night at Compton Terrace on 12/09/90. Excellent, energetic playing and a well above average song selection for that time period. Bertha was very uptempo with excellent solos; first time I had seen the recently resurrected B.T. Wind, it was a stellar performance, and remains my favorite in-person version, and even Hornsby’s Valley Road was kickin’. Second set was very long, with SIX songs before the Drums, all nicely jammed out, running over an hour for the first half of the set. A very snappy Scarlet, a throbbingly psychedelic Fire, and a three-fer of Wheel>Playin' Reprise>GDTRFB were highlights. All in all a standout show, and I even got sunburned there in December, a rare treat for an East Coast Head!

Compton Terrace- Great Place to Groove
Sorry to say that I was not at the second show. Can you believe that I elected to go out with a new girlfriend instead of going to the second night?!! All I could think about was being at the show; no wonder she kicked me to the curb.
In any case, great show the night before. Remember most clearly the beautiful contrast of the desert, the blue sky and the red sun as it went down during PITB. Went with Carl Ch and his wife (can't remember her name) up from Ft. Hua in Sierra Vista. Anyone remember the hill of at least 100 deadheads in solomn reflection going up the back hill in the natural ampitheater? Those were the good ole days. Sure miss the experience and the boys together. And all of you!

good show
very similar structure to Bonner Springs of this summer but doesn't have the *magic* of the Kansas show.
Great first set though.

Down the old Valley Road
A beautiful day in the desert winding down the best year on tour since the early eighties (those old enough and on tour will agree). Jerry always played better when Hornsbee was with them and today was no different. The Valley Road that noone knew ended up rocking the hardest for the first set. Dust was flying, heads were dancing, and dreads were flailing. Thanks Jerry for the Scarlett/Fire and fun in the sun.

He's Gone
Perhaps my all time favorite... 'Scarlet Begonia's' ripped me up and I was floatin' on the notes trying to find solid ground and they just played forever from there. When they slowed things down into 'He's Gone' - we all shed a tear for Brent. It was a moving tribute to say the least. Perfect weather on the grass terrace in the middle of winter - dust was so dense in the lot afterward that huge numbers were looking for their cars / rides afterwards. We sat on top of our suburban drinking cold beers above the smog.

This was my first show. Anyone I mentioned this to said it was no wonder I dropped it all to follow -- it was the sort of show they hope to see just a few times a year. I'll check out the Denver thing also, as I couldn't dispose of my material possessions before Boyd. I plan to enjoy

Big Mike
My dear departed brother was at this show. I wasn't on the bus at the time--I think he invited me anyway but I had other things to do that night. Too bad, now that I see this insane setlist. It would have made a nice memory.
RIP, brother. Thanks for making room on the bus for me.

I dig this one. Nice long second set. valley road had the entire place going even though the break. Doesn't have the "umpth"( for lack of a better word) that the classic denver show a few nights later has, but if you are jonesing on this set list take a listen. Great stuff here.

I don't remember much from this show. Listening to it again tho reminds me of how great it was to hear them again even without Brent. The Sound quality is excellent compared to the audience copies I had made at these two shows.

Well, Hello Bruce...
A beautiful sunny and warm day in December, I remember this as being a super fun show...a great vibe and setlist. And Bruce Hornsby for sure proved himself...too bad he did not stick with them until the end as he was a great fit. This recording does not do justice to how rocking this show truly was...I just remember the dust rising and the ground shaking during the Valley Road...wicked energy.
This recording is worthy if not excellent quality, and to reiterate, the show itself is one to own.
