Phil saves the day
Its too bad we don't have the first set also. There is a story to this show. Right at the start of the first song a couple of guys rushed the stage, and the venue's security (always off duty Chicago cops) beat them brutally. This bummed everyone out. Then Phil decided it was his job to negate the bad vibe by pouring positve energy into the building. He put the band - and the audience - on his back and carried us to a higher plane. He was inspired. He was wonderful. It was this night that made me a life long Phil Lesh fan.

Phil Ooooweeee!
Some unbelievable playin' by Phil and the boys here. There are truly some amazing Other Ones in '71. Tight Cumberland as well on this one. Short recording, but every bit satisfies!

No Pigpen, but it's not bad...
Well it's taken 37 years for me to hear this "partial show". I was 16 when this concert happened...couldn't listen to it until I lived long enough for the internet to be invented and some loving souls uploaded it for me to download, you know who you are...X X X
The GRATEFUL DEAD shows were very exciting back in the old days...as you can hear here...eh?
Thank you for feeding my head the stuff that it needs to make it work. 1971 is such a wonderful year to listen to the GRATEFUL DEAD.
Blooming like a red rose...
Thanks for the love...
Eat, drink, be merry and listen to the GRATEFUL DEAD

Ear Pummelling At Its Finest.....
This is a solid show for what there is. But, it's the Other One that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Phil is completely in control of this vehicle from the moment he starts playing. I really, really enjoyed this piece of music. The jam out of the second Cryptical is sweet. Keith is up front and his playing is very tasty indeed. Right into a groovy Deal that has a great swing to it.
After being immersed in '72-'74, the more I listen to '71 the more I enjoy it.
Peace.
The Truth is not an opinion.
