Awesome!
Wow, this site/archive is awesome, and so was this show! Kind of a hometown show for me, well college hometown anyway. A fifteen minute drive to the arena, in the requisite VW microbus, w/ all the pre-show activities...plus. A classic old barn-like arena truncated at one end w/ a stage, it held about 10,000 max capacity, GA style. We got in just as it opened and took seats right on stage right. Recall very well an unforgettable "Deal", my deciding to go to the floor for the 2nd set, and then an emotional, in my mind, "Touch of Grey" replete w/ the banner unfurling, as indicative that the band was back after Jerry's hiatus from heroin troubles. After there things got hazy, but the setlist kinda looks familiar from what I can recollect amidst swirls and all the peeps around me as I was about a third of the way back on the floor. Still, uhh...out there, when I got back to campus it seemed so surreal that there could be such a different world a short drive away. Back then it was no stretch to get up and do it all again the next night, which is exactly what I did, but this show really stood out for me, one of my all time faves.

Might be biased but it was my first show
My first show. This was a great show for me to jump on the bus. I had been to bunch of shows at the War memorial
But nothing prepared me for what I was about to experience. I remember a big crowd outside the show, VW buses
parked right in front of the entrance.. It was a slight rain a buddy hooked me up with a little something.
My buddy Tommy S. was quite a scammer, he had worked at the war memorial as a vendor but got fired. He used his badge to get in.
It was GA. It was the first time I saw a tapers section. I remember I had never seen such a colorfully dressed
Audience in my life. Watching people dancing backlit in the hallway entrances was amazing. The stage was very different than
Anything I had ever seen -- 2 drum kits, Oriental carpets, That whirling speaker thing for Brent's organ.
The best part of the show which I'm not sure how well it translates on the tape was the last song of the 2nd set not fade away.
The band left the stage but the audience kept up the chant the whole time until they came back for the encore. Midnight Hour
encore was very cool.
After the show we went to see our friend who was a night watchman at the telephone building. We got a tour
Including the all the big switching stations and a chance to go on the roof nicest view of Rochester I ever got.
We hit a local bar after his shift ended. The locals at this bar didn't like the hippies very much, but we were
ok their because our buddy stopped their every night. We took the local bus home.
What a night!!! I know I enjoyed this show. I hope you do too.
I ended up going on to see around 80 shows including the last one in Chicago. This site is great I can listen to some
Great streaming tunes at work. I am getting ready to see the boy's minus Jerry at penn state in just over a week.

My First show!
Ok, so I didn't know jack sh*t aside from Uncle John's, Truckin' and Dead Set when I went to this show and, in fact, my friend and I agreed that Van Halen's version of "Dancing in the Street" was much better than the Dead's! Hehe. I'm still on the fence on that one. ;-) I haven't heard this show in many years, and it's a true joy to hear it again. This wasn't an especially tremendous show, but it was solid and, hell, it was my first. Highlights are a great second-set High Time, a very rockin' post-space, and some energetic first set tunes (BIODTL especially nice).
My other favorite memory from this show is walking out to the hallway to go to the bathroom and ... holy sh*t, what the hell is going on out here??!!! There's people *everywhere* in the hallway dancing! Some old hippy smiles and with an inviting tone says to me "dance! dance!" A few years later, the hallway would become my standard place for a Dead show, but at this point I was very intrigued, but a little freaked out too! :-)

Oh my gooney birds, i had forgotten all about that. So funny.
Was this the show that bob sat on the stage playing slide? or was that night after. I remember I was at the stage and he sat in front of me. Such fun times. I have a picture of this somewhere, and we made tshirts of it.

Banner Drops
great show and a good time. I vividly remember the anniversary banner dropping at the end of a rousing version of touch and then the stage and house lights fading to a faint reddish haze over the stage with a fist pumping elongated percussion-led introduction to samson. anything better than a mid 80's east coast dead show?

One of my Top Ten
I saw about 120 shows between 1982>94 and this makes my top ten for sure. I like the country western hodown first set with CC>Loser> Unc>Mex>Cumberland>Down the line...wham, bam, bam. Second set is one of the best I ever witnessed. Sound quality of this version is pretty good too, although killer audiences do the insane Rochester crowd justice. One of the most high energy places on the East Coast.
PS- How cool is it when Billy grabs a mike during drums and gives the crowd clapping instructions...way over the top.
PS,PS- Best High Time ever.
