Great show
Absolutely killer show, one part that really stuck out was Jerry’s axing the Stella solo and just going back into last verse. Still a great version

Greatest What?
Some good, some bad. Whatever he consumed during the set break must have kicked in full force during Greatest Story - Jerry sounds bowled over. But definitely some nice jamming in other parts of the show.

Feb Uptown Run, Night 3 Finale
Great first set song variation and selection. Big Rail Road Blues still a rarity, well, sort of, it having returned in '79. Above par Althea and solid Let it Grow-Deal combo to close. Rooster repeat for Chicago (played night one, too). Set two continues in vein of the first with Cold Rain and Snow opener followed by Greatest Story Ever Told. No doubt the show's highlight is the Terrapin suite and sequence though drums/space to the Other One and Stella Blue. Nearly 45 minutes of grateful goodness. Unfortunately there's some vocal echo from Stella on. One star demerit on account of the audio struggles. Final (17th) show at the Uptown.

Looking for a shove in some direction..
Well if I was looking for the reviewers to sway me? --- Opinions all over the map on this one.
I personally Favorited this before end of Jack Straw.
Sound is over the top, HEADphones!!!
Show is outstanding! (selection & execution)
Is Weir high in the mix? (which he is)
That's an opportunity to really check out his performance. His tune selection is GRATE
His humor comes across /he never does the cowboy tunes with the same phrasing.
This recording puts us side stage.
And here comes the freakin Candyman,
Jerry Garcia leader of the band, nothing like him, coolest guy most of us never met personally.
So gracious and just put his heart and soul into it. Changed my life those years spent in GD land. I am never going back into the box again. Stepping off sharply from the rank and file.
Don't know about anybody else but I got so high I could at times almost forget that breathing was an involuntary response to being alive.
And here were these guys just bringing it.
Town to town, nothing like it. Nothing.
WON'T YOU TELL EVERYBODY
YOU MEET..Captain Trips
"always on the prowl" Bob Weir
I guess I need to add a word about Brent Mydland did you ever go to a show in the inner city where guys would be doing Rhythm Devils on those white food grade plastic buckets. Well some of those guys could really freaking play. Brent is playing with the tools of the trade for 81 if he had to use seal horns he would make that shine as well.
RxR blues should be included in the list of very hot GD dance tunes. This one is smoking HOT.
This tune is like the Jerry LET IT ROCK for the non-JGB inclined.(Not sure who that might be)
Could be some of those lyric flubs are related to not wanting to stomp over the jams vocally.
Wow, Absolutely perfect spot for the LLR. So a heavy Weir mix with a LOOKS LIKE RAIN,," i will still sing you love songs." -Listen to Weir sing it :)
Althea-(good review sugareesupreme)sweet version
Let it Grow, fast paced, Jerry bolts!
Deal-The jams in Deal especially before the final chorus refrain are seismic.
Mighty fine 11 song set.
Set two ---Rain&Snow>Greatest--entire pre-drumz! good tune selection and well played.
Ship of Fools- shining standing alone,
my natural thought progression to HEAD for Sailor>Saint (Sailor got pretty scarce late in the 80s)
Terrapin Station!Nice to hear thunder of drumz!
Wow, like Whale calls in Space!
Sea Monster Other 1
Jam from 'coming around'
into Stella is seamless
and pin drop territory
Dig Weir's vocals on Around x2
everything else is gravy!
This show a solid 5.
Would that all the boards captured the Dead doing what they do so very well.

Althea
I'm not saying this is the best Althea ever, but it is perfect. The jam out after the final verse is the music playing the band, six guys and an audience in mind meld. Kudos to the tapers - we owe so much to those who schlepped the gear and ducked the stiffs to bring back whatever they could get. They got a gem here. Listened to all three nights from this Uptown run and felt the band were getting hotter and hotter...lifting off to an inspiring and chilly spring tour. All the Bird Songs from this tour deserve eternal preservation. I got to see 3-7 and 3-14 but I'm going with Utica 3-13 as my favorite show.

I was intrigued by Cold Rain and Snow second set opener. It's a rare second set song to begin with, but when it was played in that set, it was not uncommon as an opener. From 1980 until the end there are 21 second set Cold Rain and Snows. Most are set openers, and when it isn't, it is always the second song because Bobby opened the set with something and then Jerry exerted his will to play it.

Couldn't tell you what the show is like, because it's too hard to listen to the crappy soundboard. Bobby's crappy vocals are at least 10 decibels louder than all the instruments.

Good show and recording. If you have a little shelf stereo with no subwoofer the bass is not very prominant.

When I was 15 a friend from work would wear a dead shirt everyday. One day I asked him what the skull and lighting bolt was all about and the next day he came to work with this show. I knew nothing of the dead, I am now forever grateful.
beautifully euphoric jams in They Love Each Other and Althea. and Terrapin, wow.

Better than the previous night
Not a bad show, but not great. The vocals aren't the best, but they are better than the previous night, and this is the better show. In this recording, in places, Brent is mixed louder than Jerry, who is playing well. Very annoying when Brent's sustained cords are drowning out Jerry wailing on Deal. (This seems to have been fixed in Cold Rain and Snow.) Jerry also plays well on Lost Sailor, though Bob gives us a less than stellar Saint. The space jam coming out of drums is noteworthy after about 4 minutes, and a highlight of the show. The Other One has lots of energy, but is ruined by Bob's vocal, and again, the keyboard is too loud. Jerry does only slightly better on Stella. Stella and Around and Around have a weird echo effect that can be annoying. Around and Around and Good Love are pretty good, though the latter fades out. One More Saturday is also pretty good, though Bob misses several entrances.

Sing-along-Dead
There are no standouts here. However, I must tell you ,aside from a Betty board this is one of the better sounding boards I've heard.Especially from this era.Ir's not a great show, pretty much a sing-along,but Jesus the QUALITY of it makes it worth it.The vocals are OUTSTANDING! That said nothing really stands out.Garcia and Brent high in the mix(Weir not prominent). Not many highlights, but for the Quality alone this is a MUST listen

Good and Bad
Good quality recording, pretty good setlist. Lots of lyrical flubs, and some spotty playing. Some really good songs, and seems to kind of bridge the gap for me, having LISTENED and collected primarialy '76 and earlier stuff, and only having SEEN very late stuff. Interesting show though, and the Uptown Theater has an interesting history.

the uptown was my favorite place. small with tons of atmosphere.
i was feeling a little down, it was the last night and 2nd set had sailor->circumstance which I was getting tired of.
i moved up to the balcony for the best Terrapin that I ever saw. truly uplifting.

Weak Show
Sorry to disagree with everyone else, but this is one of the weakest Dead shows I've downloaded. Sloppy musically, some intermittant problems with out of tune guitars & horrible vocals. I know the Dead had a tendency to sing flat, but this is much worse then normal. Great sound, though.

nearly flawless
I would give this night out of the 3 the serious nod...although they are all very nice. This is certainly one of the very best recordings in my collection. VERY crisp. And the show, well as stated before Jerry sounds as good as he would ever be again...and the band is sooo tight.
I think this is one of the best Terrapins I have ever heard...absolutely fantastic. The same for Ship.
Super interesting Bobby throughout as well...the beginning of the cheese, but before it gets out of control. Evident in The Other One...and man does Phil drop some bombs.
Go for the
d.l. now..Superb. The first 5 star rating i've given.

Nice Show.
This show has killer sound and perhaps my favorite Ship of Fools. Jerry's voice, as well as the bacground vocals, simply sound amazing on that song. The Lost Sailor/Circumstance is also quite nice. Great show but a five star rating has to be reserved for the all-time greats,
e.g. 5/8/77, 5/24/72, etc.
