Look I am giving this a 5 for the 'Brokedown' alone.
The harmonies are great and
Jerry's voice is mesmerizing
Yes the sound comes and goes during the recording so maybe like a 3.5 big picture for the entire short set but these are all big tunes in the GD song book.

Calebration was a series of shows that involved KQED and 2 fm stations. The audio was split into 4 channels and each FM station broadcast 2. The idea was you have 2 receivers, 4 speakers and you could get quad. The problem with this is the sound really hasn't been divided up properly and is waffling around. Still a very good vintage piece.

i wish they had more studio versions of pigs songs because they really jam when he has the lead vocals
i give it 4.970 as a good recording from 1970. i am looking forward to some new sounds in the autumn of 70.

For a radio broadcast, it sure sounds bad. Actually, the worst part of it is, they mixed Phil's bass way too low. I could live with that if the performances were really good, but the truth is, they're not. You can find much better (in sound and jam quality) from 1970 (in my opinion the Dead's greatest year) on the archive.

Gee, for a KQED show you'd think the sound would be perfect, but it's not. Infact I've heard better recorded shows done by the roadies than this KQED show.

favorite candyman of all time ,love garcias voice in this one,especially after the solo when he starts next verse! as hunter put it alot of people [critics] gave jerryheat for his voice ,"too thin,' 'sounds reedy" but i think it one of the great ones, love these old recordings, that just reak of the dead and "california"..that might not make sense to some of you but some one out there gets my drift!love the video footage of this song to ,,,you can see it on you tube although it is grainy,,with the double imageing ,negative colors ,palm trees and, waves crashing, and the guys look like there having fun and not quite sure how they wanna play this one yet!!very trippy!!

The arrangenemt of Candyman at this performance appears to be the first one that was "slowed down" into the form that we came to know it from here on. The earlier versions from 1970 all have a double-time delivery that gave the new song a folk-ish country feel. This is the first one that has the Grateful Dead stamped all over it, and they kept it until the end.

I have a video of this show,and It is O.K. but not the best of '70 and not your typical venue either,however the video does give a glimpse of a show at this time.Easy Wind Is pretty good.This is live in the studio w/a studio audience and was a TV program called "calibration" sound here is better than my video tape

Familiarfan is right on here. One of the reasons I love the Grateful Dead so much is the sheer power the band displays during this time frame- and this clip really captures it. In this Easy Wind, Pigpen takes off like a person who just busted out of jail, but the rest of the band sure catches up to him, once the Jam sequence fires up and the studio starts rockin'. Vintage stuff here. As we say, GOOD Ol' GRATEFUL DEAD- come and get it.

For a studio session, that really is one of the most rockin' versions of Easy Wind.
I give the set a 5 because that could easily pass for a good quick concert.

This set is nice for filler material if you have some space on a disc and really want to fill it up. Sound is o.k. but the not great. Some spots sound muddied and distorted. A little disappointing but interesting none the less.
