East vs. West? Really?!
You guys sounds like Tupac and Biggie with all this East vs. West BS! The greatest band to ever exist rocked no matter where they played as we all know including Canada and Europe (the Egypt run was a bust if you ask me).
Great show - love the Shakedown to get things going and the midi work in Iko along with the Birdsong and aforementioned Stella. I'm taking a star off for the inclusion of Picasso Moon thou, that cheese had about as damning an effect on a show as did Corrina or Day Job. Clean sound ~ enjoy!

West Coast Venues
This was a fun show and it sounds pretty good here. Like a lot of shows over the years, it is about having been there; always superior to any tape. Boy, would I love to go to the real thing tonight...been a long while, indeed. Anyway, to refute an east coast-centric reviewer from a few years back who didn't think we had many great venues like the east, we actually had some of the best in terms of intimacy in the later years. Who can forget the sense of family at Henry Kaiser? What about the great vibe at Frost on the Stanford campus; it was always the "good old days" there. Laguna Seca was very nice. And of course the Greek was spectacular on a summer evening. The Colosseum had a LOT of Asshole security people which definitely screwed up the scene there, not to mention the rather detached feel of the place and the sound bouncing around to much. Not the high point of West Coast venues, but where else had enough seats to host NYE in the later years? At least the scene at the Holiday in was...interesting :-)

I'm listening to this show and honestly it's a five star show even Picasso Moon is nice was really trying to get somewhere before Brent prematurely cuts it off. The first set highlights are Shakedown which gets off to a slow start but being the first song and clocking in at close to 16 minutes roars after the first few verses. Everything in between that and birdsong is great classic Dead the Birdsong goes to new heights midisnobs need not apply. Check out the rippin Promised land to close the first set. Iko Iko is a brilliant version note: Brents' interjections . Truly nice Piccaso as mentioned before but I love Jerrys Ship O Fools response to the infighting. after that we get the meat and everyone makes up with Brent Powerfully leading into a very well thought out Playin which subtly goes to great heights like a sideways elevator into a superb extended Eyes that remains one of my favorite later explorations of the song. I'll skip drums space cause face it we all have our moments in there while the fatty is passed. My personal comment: "I liked it a lot" Ok the bust out of space : I will take you home, with Brents baby sitting by his side is probably the best rendition ever of the song. Listen to Jerry's intro and subsequent playing. If it don't bring tears to your eyes thinking this is the last bay area show for Brent then...... I need a fast and fierce Miracle bustin all doors and windows between shoreline and the Safeway down the road. Once the doors are blown sufficiently wide enough to see, Jerry opens the his heart and out pours something Blue and Stella as in the star, not shooting but in solid form, check it out I havn't heard anything like it before or since. Back down here on earth we find out the status quo hasn't changed and we are on our own and Throwing Stones. The Boys have some great exchanges and whop were into a Lovelight. I especially like like Jerry's midi to regular conversion here really get things going throughout. Well the Weight was exactly what we needed cause I for one was floating like a balloon at this point, sweet harmonies and overall rendition.

""take you home" has a unique quality tonight. after all, Brent is at the threshold of the forever, holding all that is , enveloped and safe for the journey. This tune keeps growing with every play, reaching deep from within, sadness and joy.

In response to Steve CA
Punctuation error aside. I was simply responding to a previous review that said the West Coast shows from summer 90' were underated. I was merely pointing out that from the the reviews on this site I was confused as to how he could make such a statement. Hence the Question Mark. June 90' was indeed a remarkable month for the Band. That in no way diminishes the performances on the East Coast. Nor did I comment on the quality or lack thereof at Cal Expo or any other venue. I was at RFK, Foxboro, Buffalo and Deer Creek too. I enjoy the back and forth between users even though they ask us not to comment on other reviews. But you seem to be going off half-cocked looking to pick a fight.

what?
first of all budfox, you're not supposed to put a space before your question mark. second, east coast 1990 was just as good as the west. what about buffalo and pittsburgh? oh yeah, and the rfk dark star? one more thing, Brent's last run. tinley park was awesome. were you even at any east coast shows that tour? cal expo is a dump, so is sac town, and yes shoreline is lots of fun, but what else is there, eugene oregon? big deal.
anyway, this show sounds pretty good, recorded a little low but well worth it. show and sound get a 4.

How embarrassing
This is a pretty cool show, nice loping Shakedown, Easy to Luv, Bird Song and a relatively diverse (songs n jams) second set. Playin > Eyes is tight!
At this show I got really really bummed they didn't do Dark Star out of Playin for some reason, and laid down on the lawn and fell asleep until Miracle hit. Stupid!! Too much mushrooms n beer. I was deservedly heavily ridiculed by my crew. I told myself from then on not to get too wrapped up in what the Dead play, just HAVE FUN.... what the hell, I was 19.

Summer '90
Although over-shadowed by a fantastic Spring tour, the first 8 shows of the summer tour, including Cal Expo, Shoreline and Eugene, are entirely underated. This run at Shoreline is particularly strong (including the 6/16 show which was released as part of the "View from the Vault" series) and the final night of 6/17 is just as good. This show also has it all: Great song selection and great playing, and it sounds pretty good too.
