CONSUMER ALERT: Worst "Morning Dew" ever!
It's not Jerry's fault, it's Bobby's: He ripcords by starting "Throwing Stones" before they can build the final "Morning Dew" crescendo. This is even more egregious than the infamous 12/31/88 "Morning Dew" ripcord incident ....
Overall, these shows are well worth revisiting. They have that relaxed hometown vibe, even though we're not technically in the Bay Area. This show has a particularly strong "Iko" to start the 2nd set.
The announcement from the stage before setbreak re: gatecrashing paints a picture of the scene. Note that things were beginning to build up even before "Touch of Grey" was in the Top 40: Sold-out shows, full parking lots, gate crashing ... The momentup was already building. We can't just blame the single for making a mess of the scene in the late 80s/early 90s...

We dropped some strong acid and took a bike ride where we somehow ended up at Irvine Meadows.
True story.

Very fun show
The sound on this is just fine- no matter what the mix is. The line up is lots of fun with some toe-tappers really filling out the night nicely. Everything in the first set seems really upbeat and rollicking. There is an interesting little jam in the last 60 seconds of the Row Jimmy that resembles what might have been a something of a Beer Barrel Polka jam but isn't. Jus some fun tinkering. Let it Grow is strong and long and could have ended the set on it's own but instead they throw in a Don't Ease for good measure.
The Throwing Stones -> Lovelight is also fun to hear. It is a swift transition that catches the crowd off guard for sure. Not the best Lovelight by far- but enjoyable. The only thumbs down for me is the Black Muddy River encore. Not that there is anything wrong with the playing (although Jer does sound a lil vocally worn down at this point in the night). It is purely nostalgic reasons that I am not fond of BMR - being one of the last songs the band ever performed live. Great show tho - i would give it 3 1/2 stars but there are no half stars so - I'm forced to give it 3.

Tight Show
This is an excellent late '80s show that well captures the energy building around the band prior to the release of In the Dark. The sound quality of the recording is great, as one would expect from anything with Charlie Miller's name on it.
As for the show, Jerry's playing is awesome, with the first set being particularly strong. Sugaree, West LA, Let it Grow and Don't Ease are all super hot. Jerry's voice is a little harshed out, but that is not surprising since east coast spring tour had recently ended. I'd give it a 4.5 rating if I could because it is really a great listen, but it doesn't quite get to vaunted 5 star status. Just my two cents...
