Notes
"PMB mics were made by a now defunct German company, about 15 years ago. The mic's are self powered (AA batt in each), the 2 sets of capsules that I have are the shotguns (about 12" length) and the small capsules which have a figure-8 pick-up pattern. Balanced output at the mic. They were owned by a speaker designer from England. Before working w/ Home audio, he worked w/ pro sound. He did lots of recording @ small to large venues in the UK. He recorded for broadcasts. He stuck w/ these mic.s through the end of his recording days."

yep, foolish heart solo is sweet
Listened to Foolish Heart based on reviews below. The solo is really sweet. Jerry mumbling lyrics before and after, but he, and the band, really sound

great. Garcia near the end of LLR - I just love that sound. Find it again in the early part of space, here. It's that chilling and haunting late-era tone. Sounds like he's wailing.... Post-space is not too shabby, either. The Wheel is a treat, as is the tender Black Peter and Baby Blue encore.

"Get in the groove and play all night long"
This is the show inwhich the Boston run really took off. The band is firing on all cylinders and right out of the gate it is really good. The 1st set is
...
very strong with a sing along opener LTGTR>Bertha>GSET. Bertha has Jerry really pushing it along with extended solos and faster than usual tempo. He did this in Landover and NYC too. There is great work from Bobby and Phil with them really amped up. GSET is maybe the best from this year with Jerry stepping it up on the wah wah pedal. West LA is ranchy, with a perfect solo. El Paso,LRR pairing, quite common this year, is very good.Eternity is a standout.Vince's playing and harmonies are excellent too. Set II will have something for everyone. Victim is emotional, epecially when Bobby is screaming the chorus over an over again before going into the final jam with the audience loving it.This may have been the last great Foolish Heart, granted Jerry always flubbed a verse here and there with this song, but what makes this a standout is the passion from Jerry. The music soars and the verses he does nail correctly are compelling and insightful in their wisdom. The build up jam is quite incredible, with it taking the usual twist and turns but the band just keeps pushing the envelope more and more and then a perfect peak! I was floored when I saw it and the audience acknowledges whole heartly. It is the best version I saw since 3/19/90.I love the tranistion into LL Rain. This version again is passionate and enjoyable with Jerry playing nice licks and Phil driving it along.Bobby is loud in the mix the entire show.Next we get a strong Samba, I loved them playing this it was for BG, and a nice jam afterwards. The post space is super with a faster tempo Wheel, similar to Bertha, and a smokin Miracle into an old favorite, Black Peter. Jerry sings and plays this with an emotionally intensity that makes this the best of the year. The Lovelight is the icing on the cake. We were so pumped after this we all joined into a spontaneous NFA clap, which you can hear on this excellent audience recording, that was joyful and sincere.Baby Blue was one of my favorite Dead encores and this version is heartfelt and well done, the passionate singing Jerry does at the end was perfect.

Bite the Hand That Bakes Your Bread
A solid rating. The Foolish Heart played here is my favorite version ever. Jerry's "Foolish" solo will give you the chills....slowly escalating, improvisational

buildup. Lots of teases where they could have let-it-go, but didn't. The whole band was on the same page. I'm willing to overlook any lyrical mishaps in the song in appeciation for this delicious little goodie. Greatest Story->West L.A. is very good. The jam mentioned previously in here is also notable...Russian sounding, IMO. A Heavy punch at tail end of miracle and a nice Baby Blue to wrap it up.

Good Audience sound for the Garden; strong showing on Jerry's part for this era. IMHO, Jerry sounds really good from pretty much the get-go of LTGTR.

A tale of Two Shows
Cause that is what this is... A slow start with very little focus from Garcia really bogs this show down as it really doesn't pick up until Lazy River

Road or Eternity. However, Eternity is a deff. keeper. Victim solid yet really not fully explored, Foolish is a little too loose for my goose, LLR is solid and Samba is just Samba. BUT BUT BUT... then the drummers attempt to take the stage with protests from Jerry and Vince, oh vey, a juicy jam (although with fallout samba rythmn) ensues, very well played. While driving through northern maine, I sat and realized why I have negative feelings towards the current "dead" machine and that is just because if the fat man had made himself stronger, I can't even fathom what the band would be like today. This jam really has some points were the band is cooking right along throwing out hooks and riffs left and right... Drums are good as is space... SPace is just a long intro for the Wheel and the rest of the set is very good with the highlight being Lovelight. An appropiate All over Now Baby Blue caps the set with the just right touch of bittersweet that kept bringing us back. Thanks Music Archive.... By the way, very good recording of this show by Dave Minor... To Quote PHISH: THANK YOU MR MINOR
