This one is a beauty! The smaller venues can be real gems. Spokane June 80 is the same story...small venue and fabulous show and recording. Vocals crystal
...
clear. Haven't even gotten past Peggy-o, but all perfect so far. Wow! Only lost a star because bass is low, which is totally normal with aud. tapes. Seattle 80 is bigger venue, but also fantastic.

I hadn't known about this show being up here, and now thirty years I discover it. My memories are so vivid from this concert... I was, at one point standing
...
on the stage with my clothes rippling from the giant speaker I was directly in front of. I was allowed to climb up there to shoot photos, so I snapped off a whole roll of great close-ups of the band. Too bad the shots have disappeared before I could scan them in. Still searching for the negs. I saw them two nights later at Pine Knob and those were the only shows I was lucky enough to attend.
Just found some of, but not all the negatives from that show... http://dougoblue.tumblr.com/post/33666965324

Wow! Brings back some memories for sure. This was my first show in what is my hometown. I had just turned 16 and living a rather sheltered life in a conservative
...
town & well before I knew anything about psychedelics or cannabis or the history of the whole long strange trip or even many of the songs by what was already my favorite music. Thanks to my older Bro who got us to the show and I'll never forget the scene....tour buses, tie dyes, jesus freaks (literally), front page of the local news. Smallest venue I ever had the pleasure of seeing the boys play... I think in those days the Grand held about 2500 max and I reckon there was perhaps 1500 of us for the show. Plenty of room to dance around & get up close. Being so overwhelmed with just being there and having had nothing but a poor quality cassette until recently the memory is a bit fuzzy when it comes to the songs but hearing this very fine recording has brought me back full circle. It would be another 3 years until my next show & pretty slim tour attendance through the 80's but I had found my people & was most definitely on the bus.
There was a lot of freedom in those days and I'll never forget the adventures to come and beautiful heads to meet & I'll be forever Grateful to Jerry & the band for coming to ole sleepy GR and shaking it up in the best way imaginable!

We had driven from Wisconsin and took a tour (unscheduled) of Grand Rapids, home town of former President Ford, and arrived just in time to purchase tickets

from the box office. It was a splendid summer evening and my crazy companions were happy we made it even after the lady of the evening tried to delay us. Real small room and it was never as mellow after that. Lived and loved Passenger! Excellent playing though a little tired from the past week's shows. I was just glad to be doing something cool and adventurous. At seventeen, this kind of freedom was astronomical. Always about the music and the message transmission. Furthur we must go.

What a wonderful find. Have been looking for some time. Mistakenly thought date was sept.5--First show and what a treat. Burrowed in to within 5 feet of

stage (gen. admission) right in front of the fat man. Lightning struck immediately, cried till dehydrated.....absolute bliss, immediately dun-daid in the wool. grand recording. Listen close to audience member in balcony scream "something-something Jesus, I'M WARNIN YA!!!" just before going into samson. Weird -or not. Can clearly hear the Claire Bros. mains, vocals and drums a bit boxy sounding compared to MSLs yet by far best live sound I'd ever heard by several terra Ks. Didn't have a clue Jerry had those kind of slide chops ( alternating slide/fingered 2nd chorus in Passenger). Totally floored by the show, and finding a recording of my first show. Thanks to all involved!!

This one totally suprised me. I wasn't expecting much but this is solid all the way through and the sound quality is superb. In fact, this could be one
...
of the best China Cat ---> Rider's of 1980. Another highlight is a very subtle Althea that just grows on you with each listen. Give this show a listen folks, it's one of the real sleepers of '80.

I've been looking for this one for quite awhile as well. Sounds like there could've only been 1-2000 people there. The Grand Center is quite small from
...
what I remember. Very nice sounding recording for and AUD in a half empty auditorium. Solid playing stat to finish as well but nothing spectacular.

I know in the mid to late 70`s Michigan was the Red Bud capital of the north coast....maybe some lingering second hand fumes were in the air...............

This is a really good audience recording. Nice work. Possibly my favorite period for live shows. So far, my favorites would have to be that marvelous Brown
...
Eyed Women. Nicely done all around, but Jerry's breaks are phenomenal. Definitely got the right tone as well. Ship of Fools blew me away too: good pace, good solos, Brent burning along in the harmonies.... takes me back to the best part of the 1980's.

Let it grow>Deal is a foot stomper and very hot...Listen to Bobby wail like a banshee. China>Rider is really solid easily the best of the year with

Rochester shortly after this. Drums are short but trippy. The Black Peter>Sugar Mag is the bollocks.
Good quality tape and a very respectable listenable show.

Summer tour 1980:Aug 24, Grand Rapids Michigan at the Grand Center. Ah yes I remember this one well. I have the stub on my wall right here! The auditorium

was half empty which made the experience quite rare and fun. I recall the jam in Let It Grow was really jazzy and hot. This tape confirms my memory. Passenger sizzles. Listen to Jerry's slide! The sound is clear and crisp with no chatter during the tunes though the bass is a bit low (ah for a soundboard...). Still 5 stars for nice sound overall and a killer show.

Thank you sir! This show is one I have been after for a little while. I was reading through deadbase and made a double take on the set lists. This is a
...
very nice audience show because it was recorded on the balconey which means that the taper was away from much of the raucus crowd noise- although it is loud when the band takes the stage and after songs. But seriously, the crowd noise is low through out the duration of the songs. At some points it sounds like a sbd...but not quite...the jam in "stranger' is sick!
Great stranger and china rider. The NFA is one of the most lingering and jaming versions I have heard from this year. 'Don't ease' encore is weak but the entire show is a nice find and a rare one at that. It is also sadly one day from the 1 month anniversary of KG's death.
This aud. recording is well worth the download. You will be very pleased. For an aud show its a 5 star aud recording but I will rate sound as a 4. The show performance is right on and the band is having fun!.
