Terrapin31590 nails it
although i'm tempted to go up to 4 stars for the bird song alone, which is excellent.
i would also add 3/20 and 3/21 to his list of '91 east coast shows to check out.

Bird Song!!!!
I remember being in the section where the "We Want Phil" chant started before he looked at the crowd, pointed at us as if to say, ok you got it, and the band launched in to "Tom Thumb's Blues" - a great moment.
The real scorcher of this show for me, though, was the monumental climax of the Bird Song jam. Holy Cow! a great Bertha as well. I'll also never forget how long it took the band to get going before the opening Stranger. I don't know what was going on, but they noodled around forever. Reminded me of all the stories and tapes from shows back in the 60s and 70s, before I was on the bus, when the boys were notorious for taking forever to get going between songs.

What a Run!
In looking at some of the posts, it looks like some fans saw this show as a letdown when compared to what was offered up the last two nights. I will agree that the song selection left something to be desired, but it was played very well.
One post said the 1st set was shaky. I disagreed until Bird Song & then thought the reviwer lost it! That Bird Song was one of the better one's for 1991 (I know that's saying alot!). The climax in that song nearly ripped the roof off of the Coliseum.
Ok, I'll admit again.....not the best song selection. Although listening to it again, it is for the most part tight throughout. Anyone who tells me that the Terapin is not a complete monster is listening to something else. I also think the teasing of Dark Star (never recommended - it's like..you won $10,000!....wait...no you didn't) to be repalced by Watchtower caused a few heads to shut it down & not listen. This Richfield run was outstanding.......unless you were in the parking lot. The heat was on.

agree with the milkman
dmilks sums it up best for me. I prayed each night that I never would get a Victim>crazy>playing>terrapin. They were played way too often and in my opinion, stale. If you like that lineup, check it out. For me, it seems like they are coasting. Personal preference obviously

4 star 91 Dead
Although the song choice on set two leaves a little to be desired, the musicianship is excellent. Stranger, TT Blues, All Over Now, and Bird Song are all 1st set hightlights. The Second set is very well played, even the Victim>Crazy, which became such a staple during this year, that it got to be somewhat boring. Jerry nails every lyric on Crazy Fingers-very rare!

Standard '91 Fare
As a fan of the bruce/vince era of the Dead, I would say this is an average show. The first set to me is a little shaky. Harmonies during Stranger are a bit rough and it takes, in my opinion, until All Over Now for the band to finally find its groove. Bird Song is the other highlight of the first set.
The Victim>Xrazy Fingers pairing to start the second set is unremarkable, the Playin' jam outro again, decent, not great. Terrapin is probably the highlight of the set, with a nice extended jam into Drums and the post Space Dark Star, while short, is a nice treat. Stella does cut abruptly into Around & Around.
If you are looking for Fall '91 pick of the litter, this is not it. Check 9/4, 9/10 and possibly 9/9. In my opinion, of the 3 east coast runs from 1991, spring, summer, and fall, this is the weakest. If you want the goods, check 4/1, 4/5, 6/17, 6/22 and 6/14.
NEUTRAL RECOMMENDATION

good 91 show
Pretty good setlist. The stranger and bertha first two slots are very nice, the bertha rocks, jerry doesn't forget any lines, hornsby is great on piano and a nice solo also on it. Peggy O and Tom Thumb's are pretty straightforward tunes but well played. The stella blue i wished was a bit longer, the jam segment that is, but it is sill nice. Not the ideal setlist, but with sound quality as superb as this, definitely worth checking out if you're down with the 91 sound, which I love

Hearing it again...what a treat...as good as I thought it was at the time. I always thought it mighta been the chemicals. But no, this one ROCKS from start to finish. Fabulous 'Birdsong', wild "DS Jam', 'All Over Now', 'Bertha'....just a great show. I never again saw a show as good as this one. Too bad.

Solid 91 show
This was a good run for the boys (post Brent). Energetic 1st night for the tour opener, more pro, smooth second night, but this was the best from my seats. Jerry sings a beautiful Terrapin into drumz with a wonderful Stella to end the "jam"...
