underrated and unsold out
After two shows at Giants, it was nice to be home for the two Palace shows. I remember people couldn't even get face value for this show outside in the lot. Not sold out. Mid week if I remember correct. No doses in New York but managed a couple of good ones for this night and didn't dissapoint. Aside from the sound problem that was worked out during Althea, this whole show is awesome(sans way to go). Picasso seemed appropriate due to not many people being in to the show or in their seats yet. Kind of a 'warm up' song to get sound worked out and let the heads get to their seats. Once you could hear Jerry it turned into his night. The Must have been the rosed was delightful, and Jerry had that kind sound ringing. The All over now was good as well and the Birdsong was maybe the best one I ever saw live. I had seventh row center for this show. All I can say is Pre drums Truckin>speedway>TWBS was awesome. Speedway Boogie, which was played in '92 spring tour first set at the Palace was familiar and clearly Jerry was getting off with the second set spot here. And as mentioned, only the second TWBSomething played. It melted into way to go which although sucks, continued a bluesy feel. Saint>He's Gone was awesome, and all He's Gone's that summer tour were really pushing it, including Louisville, and Deer Creek. This show doesn't get the credit it deserves, for some reason, especially compared to night two, which, in my opinion was less psychadelic. Drums/Space was unbelievable, as usual. Last time out of space had a Deer Creek '92 feel to it. The standing on the moon maybe the best, ever. I am partial to this version due to making eye contact with Jerry during this song. He kept looking at me and it was like he was reading my mind or something. After the final verse, he kept eye contact as he built and built the energy of this song until he came back for another round of "Be with You" for another cresendo! I am not kidding. I have researched this and challenge anyone to prove me wrong, this is the first of many SOTMs to have a 'be with you' reprise. The previous version at UNLV Sam Boyd 5-14-93 comes close but doesn't return for the reprise. As I said this is the first time Jerry sang this song this way and stared right at me the entire cresendo. What at memory! At the end, in '95, it had become a teary eyed event along with So Many Roads cresendos...among others. Anyway, I didn't mind the I fought the law at that point, Jerry loved it. Plus it was my first since they busted it out at Richfield earlier in the spring where I was pretty high that night too. After the show Jerry, with a huge smile, waved to the crowd as he exited stage right. We just sat there in our seats waiting for the mad rush to exit to settle down and were greeted with a vicious thunderstorm/rain/wind as we exited into the parking lot. No vending that night. Anyway, what a show at a venue/state that doesn't get much credit in Deadhead circles.

bird song
this show has an amazing bird song. every time i saw them play that song i felt like i'd hit the jackpot. add to that a really strong althea, new speedway, jerry just truckin along the whole night. these were very good shows at the palace. next night was pretty fantastic too.
Edit - Just listened again to this show -- mainly for bird song. did a little sleuthing and this is apparently only the second time they ever played the mccartney song, 'that would be something.' the first was sept 91.

This Show is unreal. these two nights were way better than any others that summer. Bob is way loud with Jerry in the background. A solid 4 star show with one more thrown in for being my first.

Interesting Start To The Show...
I was at this one with my brother, and during Picasso Moon we could have a conversation with each other and barely have to raise our voices (despite decent seats). I told him something must be wrong because it wasn't loud at all. He insisted that I was just deaf from too many concerts! Then, in the middle of Althea, BOOM!! Somebody plugged something in and damn did it get nice and loud. Everybody in the crowd roared in appreciation, and my brother gave me a sheepish grin that said "yeah, you were right!" Good times, good times....

A great day in michigan
This was my first of the two nights at the palace. This was a great night, but check 6-9-93, the 2nd night was smokin. I remember hearinn jerry's smooth voice ringin out during Standing on the Moon, so sweet it brought tears to my eye. Eveything worked out perfect that, i found all my friends at all the right time and everything just flowed seemlessly together. I both nights are2 specila to me, but the sound quality aint bad either. I still give ita 5, Even though jerry forgot alot of lyrics, cuz any day with the Dead is better than anywhere else without.

The mix improves over the first couple tunes
People start dropping into the mix as the first set gets under way. Still not great sound for a SBD. Jerry's Guitar is way back in the mix, Bobby's guitar is almost non-existent. However, don't let the first minute turn you away, it slowly gets better.

I think it's a good average show. Not bad at all, but nothing really amazing either. Sound is very good, but not outstanding.
