So Glad I Made It!
I've been reminiscing a lot lately about the 1990 summer tour. The Dead was so hot in '89 and '90. Brent had truly arrived. Music venues like Deer Creek and Shoreline breathed new life into the experience compared to the soulless stadiums that were the norm. I remember setting out on this tour with tickets to all of the shows except Deer Creek. I guess because of it's small size tickets were only sold like in a 50 mile radius, no mail order. We managed to get tickets and when we got there, there was a feeling in the air that this was going to be something special. We camped at a nearby State Park where I met this beautiful girl that I ended up hanging with for the remaining shows. We got together several times since and are still friends today. The previous show in Buffalo was/is one of my favorite shows so how were they going to top that? Well the Help>Slip>Tower opener was definitely an indication this was going to be a stellar show. I agree that the recording sound quality is lacking. I guess you were either there or you weren't. Damn those guys knew how to put on a show!

"climbable fence"....
A review a few down from this one says thanks to Deer Creek for a climbable fence and a free show. It's sad to hear that, really, for those who paid for tickets, wanted to keep things cool for the band to keep coming back, and for all who saw it spiral down into the dynamic of 1995; the end of the road.

One of My top three Shows
Wow, what a show this was at the Tweeks! First set I had 3rd row in front of Jerry and 2nd set we were at about the 30th row. This show to me had one of the loudest crowd responses at a show I had ever heard For the China> Rider opener and then For the Other One > Dew. When they played the Dew, it was very misty and foggy. The Weather was changing, it was almost spooky with the How dark it was, and damp and foggy in this kind of Valley of cow pastures. But the energy that night by the Band and Crowd was amazing. People just stood there stunned after the show, in awe of what they just experienced. And the seen at the Lot and Campgrounds was EPIC! another level!!

Great times
It's like a smell or song that brings you right back to a momment in time. It's hard to describe. My wife says we met briefly at this show, says I was all lovey dovey on some other girl. Officially it was Shoreline 91. 17 years! Thank you Grateful Dead for giving US so many keeper memories. The ARCHIVE RULES!

Thanks Deer Creek
Thanks to light security and a very climbable fence this night was on the house. The Other One had my roommates girlfriend and I spinning out of control. Everyone was dancing so hard, and spinning so fast, and the liquid was so good. Ah to be back on tour. Is it just me, or are there other 41 year old heads that want to chuck the shirt and tie, get a bottle of liquid, and go back on tour. Daydreamin' of kinder times.

simply the best...
Of this tour. First set is full of solid performances of classic songs. The second set is simply phenomenal. Aside from the boys being a little out of time in the 3rd verse of LLR this is a flawless set of music. Other One>Dew is particularly inspired.

One big Amen to the Archive!
I pretty much sat in a stunned silence in the middle of the pavillion through the 2nd set--other one>dew combo was/is mind splitting
People can feel free to split hairs about sound quality/technicalities and I am no musician to comment on performance
Loved the show then--love being able to have it now--good times

Best show I ever saw!!!
Well, I only saw 20 or so shows, but this was the best. Cincinnati in '86 was close...and the next nights show at Deer Creek is another close runner up. Even if you weren't there to feel the vibe and see the girls going topless to beat the heat...the recording will speak for itself.

AWESOME show 4.75 out of 5
This show was special. You could foretell that there was a special delivery waiting just being out in the lot. Part of my first Summer tour, and enjoyed with some of my best friends, that I maintain today. A golden Era. Deer Creek was a magical place. One man gathers what another man spills I guess, when speaking of this former garbage dump.

As good as it gets!
Alright, let's cut to the chase, this should be a Dick's Picks. The next night was featured on The GD hour over several weeks, and it was a great show, but it was not this one. Yes the sound quaility, particularly in the first set, leaves something to be desired, an upgrade would be sweet, but until then it's worth having, to anyone! And no lie about this being the best "The Other One" post 70s. I have a friend that saw 115 shows from 1981 until '95, when he heard my old aud tape of this he bummed, "Better than anything I've ever seen".... though I only saw 30 shows , it was easily the best by far. Check it out!

sound quality needs upgrade
the frist set sounds like hell, more than a few cassette generations and lots of hiss.
the second set is much tighter, no his but a bit flat on the punch, and has some digi pops in China
I was there and they played well, the shn just needs an upgrade

This Was My First Show!
Words can't express how happy I am to have found this show, in it's entirety, after losing the tapes ten years ago.
This show smokes... all the way through. I didn't know it when I was there, I just knew it sounded good... and I had a great time. Yeah, the laughing drumz really freaked me out when it happened, and for some reason was ommited from the tape I used to have. I honestly thought my friend and I hallucinated that whole part. hehe..
Looking back, this is still the best show form the 90's that I have heard or have attended. I'm so thankful that it was archived here.

Best post-70's Other One?
Uh, yeah. Just listen to it. The pure evil laughing during Drums is a warning that things will get out of control pretty soon. After an extended intro section Phil starts with the bombs and Jerry slams right in with the E chord and proceeds to rip it up from there. Some great tones in this Other One with feedback sounding like rockets blasting off and some subtle vocal enhancements that make it even creepier. Great vocals from Jerry during the chorus. Just when it gets calm, time for all hell to break loose before the second verse. At a '93 show in DC I saw a guy with a shirt that read "I freaked at the Creek." It must've been referring to this Other One. Just nasty.

goose bumps and flashbacks
OK, I tried to get around it but first things first: the sound quality of the first set is unfortunate - not totally bad, you get the feel of the crowd which is cool, but not as many sonic goodies. That said, the second set sound quality, the performance during both sets that night ,( oh yeah, I was there and it was profound), and the songs they played add up to many sublime moments in Dead history! The Other One into Morning Dew,(and the first solo break in Morning Dew is as badass as many final crescendos that make MD legendary!), what a combo. Great Bobby stuff: killer vocals 1st set and just great playing all around. But once again: who has the soundboard of the first set? Let me know (bradynyoung@
yahoo.com). Great show, a great memory...Jerry was so On that night...hell, the whole band was On, in a big way! Help/Slip/Frank openner and the rest is history........

best show in the 1990s - bar none
top to bottom, this has to be one of the strongest setlists of all time - H-S-F, Deal China Rider, Terrapin, Morning Dew!!! Killer vocals and energy all night - especially on the end of Masterpiece with Jerry coming on very strong. Deer Creek was always special and this show was the finest one played there.

Great 2nd set
07/18 2nd set sound is much cleaner than the 1st, get it for the Phil thunder and sound effects (laughing drums). Deer Creek 1990 rocked, too bad the first set sounds so poor.
