Bob Menke recording (Sony ECM-280/Sony TC-152)
Patch Source: SBD>MR>C>DAT>CDR
This is an audience recording with soundboard patches. So are the patches the reason no one can download this show? If so, that's just silly.

great show
a 5 star performance. As this is clearly an audience recording, why can't we download it?

TOP 20
Big fan of '76 and this is why... Listen closely to how well played and lysergically syrupy this is - perfect for a long car ride or an afternoon in bed.
'76 never gets any love, this one of the best scarlets ever IMHO and the playin is really trippy already and then jer busts out the wawa - hot year for playin (chicago, boston)but this is really nice and a good loooong one.
The whole set is beyond words and in many ways is better than the better known shows later in the week. The let is grow>eyes>wr>other one is insane... why they never did that again I am aware of is a crime like it so much better than other one>wharf rat.... listen to the acid rant from the crowd right before Phil launches into the da da da da boom - thats why this gets a 5, while audience quality is ok, the crowd is great and this show is really good 5+

Menke Aud
I was listening to my copy of the Menke aud of this show on it's anniversary the other day, and was reminded of how you can barely hear Jerry's playing during this show. He is barely audible and the drums (not to mention phil and bobby) are so much louder that they drown him out. Good playin' jam, but the second set isn't as cool as it looks, in my opinion.

Soundboard
I really appreciate seeing 7/14/76 on Archive as this six-night run at the Orpheum is, in my very humble opinion, the sweetest most fluid Garcia there is to be found anywhere at anytime of his 35-year career (the second set of 7/18/76 is simply a timeless musical masterpiece). This show finally finishes off the last of the six shows for my collection. The thing is, though, that I very much doubt this is a SoundBoard; there's simply way too much audience noise and the sound is clearly 'distant' throughout. Sorry to be such a stickler, and I really, really do appreciate the effort, but if you need this to have it in your collection, fill your boots. But if you want a nice crisp SoundBoard of it, with all due respect, I'd probably keep looking. For that reason, although I love this period, I will subtract two stars.
