Solid late '80's show..
that's about it, the band had nothing like the power of '85 but a good run nonetheless. This show had some good moments but really doesn't go anywhere.

1st Set: After being in the city for at least 4 days, could they really still feel like "Stranger"s? Maybe all of this time away from home is wearing especially

thin... It's slinky but middling and slight. "Franklin's" is is quiet and respective, but not noteworthy. Yea Brent, tell us how you're feeling...like hell, huh? Well, you're sounding A-Ok during a spicy "Never Trust." Standout perf. An extended (almost 5 minutes) simple, spiffy "Big Railroad" follows. Despite a muddled beginning "Memphis Blues" is standard. "Stagger" is also polite, quite easy to listen to, but not a full meal. "Promised" is equally as casual though it heats up in the last minute. 2nd Set: Those drum beats sound awfully like 'Man Smart' but at :15 the subtle momentum makes itself fully pronounced as it's all about "Not Fad(e)ing Away." They run through a slightly askew and screeching boogie jam that adeptly segues into "Scarlet." A insistingly happy easy to like version that doesn't allow its minor excursions to prevent from seguing into "Fire" at 6:30. Yes, Jerry flies on his magic carpet all throughout the three's. The second jam in the sixes is more delicate and features odd bird-calls xylos by Mick. There's our "Man Smart" Brent owns that second verse, his voice sounds clear and high-pitched as if he still had his long hair from the early 80s...Oopsy Bobby at 2:46, a round too soon...but he coyly still gets his 'Listen' in. The slowdown so the crowd can singalong and thereby agree even if not intending too, is more deliberate this time as we head into "Drums." Early repeats of the 'NFA' groove give way to your standard "Drums." "Space" are compassionate celestial comets cannoned...I'm twirling as we enter the "TOO" zone. Things become serious after the first verse (3:19)and then turn into a video game by the 5's though it's intense. There's far much livliness to "Wharf" for it to be devestating yet it's a superlative, hopeful in the carrier's strength..."Throwing's" got some errors, but it's funkier than the norm. Did Bobby lose his voice/mic during the final build-up or was the intention for the crowd to sing it for him? The reprise is a bit jarring and there's little music, but the crowd obliges by taking over. A couple more "NFA" riffs and then a settler known as "Black Muddy." Heartfelt. 3 1/3

this show sounds really good. Im not sure the playing is as good as the setlist, but they do sound like they're having fun. The next year really gets me going...love those fuckin '89 shows. Fuckers dont fool around!!
