AHH Dear Creek....
1st time to Deer Creek. Funny how you remember weird things, I remember the night before at a campground (field) somewere nearby. The seen was so cool and I was finally relaxing and getting into the groove after a few days on tour. Bought some bogus hits and after a few hours these family guys came around and we were saying how bumed we were that we got ripped off and they just handed us about eight hits of blotter. O.K. so me and Trav feast and then just as we start to launch it begins to downpour. RAIN. For some reason this is so in my head. After the rain it was all mud and bearfeet and drum circles by candle light and kind people and smokin beaties. The next day was just a mellow day on tour, with a pretty good show.
I know others will disagree but for me it was as much about the people as it was the music. Of course they were interconnected.

Rippin First Set
I love the mixture of fuzz and raunch in Garcia's sound during the first set. I was at this show and the energy level was impressive for 1993, especially JG. The band looked comfortable and confident on stage. Spoonful was fun with Bobby's raspy screams, Loose Lucy was filled with Garcia's fun "Yeah's" and Phil's bass line was solid throughout.

Summer 93'
Real nice First set. Jack Straw gets my vote for the best of 93' Buckeye a close second. Very soulful rendition of FOTD by Jerry. Vince piano solo is really good.(serious) Garcia really nails Jack-A-Roe great solos, the Band provides great tempo and it is very obvious that jerry is on both Musically and vocally this night. Bob belts out a great BTW accented perfectly in all the right places by Garcia. Loose Lucy is more of the same. Phil is very prominent Jerrys voice really gives the song some extra punch. The muisc is top notch so this performance is among my favorites. Eternity really sucks. Jerry brings things back with a good So Many Roads nice emotional ending into a solid Promised Land. Real solid set. Scarlet is excellent but beware of a cut to aud. source right at the peak of the solo. Fire is scorching. Great Solos thudering Base and I hear Bobby load and clear the whole way through. He really makes the song as a matter of Fact. The rest of set 2 is just average *Black Peter is song well. The first solo is better than average But im sorry the ending jam is when Peter is supposed to cook. Listen to Buckeye a far superior Example Garcia jams it out for 3 minutes plus fanning the strings hard between blistering solos. This jam last about 10 seconds Pretty lame. First set was where most of the great moments were this night. Not unusual for 93'

Had a great time at these shows! I got on the bus and left indiana at the 81 MSA show - had just finished school in Bloomington & it seemed like the best option at the time...sheeesh...anyway, came back from CALI for this run and ran into the two dudes i went to the 81 show & left in the parking lot!!! The Help/Slip/FT was awesome as was the entire vibe around these shows out in the middle of nowhere!! ..walked halfway around the world - on the promise of a glow...indeed

Deer Creek 1993
Deer Creek! A great venue. This was a nice show. A very nice first set. Spoonful was wonderful and we got a pair of Jacks. Bobby had problems (surprise!) during Scarlet and missed most of Fire. Jerry and Phil picked up the slack and they did do an awesome Black Peter. Enjoy

Good Scarlet Bad Corrina
Nice first set led to a promising second set. Scarlet>Fire was dead on with Jerry hitting all the right notes. The segue is so smooth, if your not listening, you'll miss the changes. The big let down was a very flat Corrina. The band just didn't seem interested. Gotta love the I Fought the Law encore though.
Personally, this show will forever go down as the only show ever where I managed to find my car within 20 minutes after the show!
