Show Caught me by surprise
I listen to the second set of this show on Dave Lemieux Today In Grateful dead history. I was blown away the soundboard and the way the band played. I thought like the other review said Space was awesome and the way they weaved there way into a great Other One impressed me. Also how the Throwing Stones-Playing in the Band combo bobby did I have never heard that! I think Bruce Horsnby added so much depth to Vinces keyboard. I think Vinces keyboards are too thin and too much synth. I miss Brent immensely. He added a dynamic to the band and that in my opinion was lacking afterwards. Great show and I love the Shakedown to start the show. 20 mins long sweet! Not a 5 show but dam near close.

Not even close, kiddies!
For those reviewers below who seem to be giving high marks to 1991 and 1992 Shakedown versions--I have to laugh!! Please take a trip on the archive and go back to the Fall of 1979 or try 12/31/1984 and see what you are missing, in regards to what an actual beast Shakedown can really be. I still have never heard a Shakedown w/ Vince and/or Hornsby that could ever gain what we lost w/ the Brent and Jerry show. The more Jerry's guitar evolved into the horny-midi realms, the less dramatic the Wah-wah-wah--funkiness of the song became, year after year.

Shakedown
All I remember was the Shakedown and the great crystal opium that I scored at this show. Thanks Jerry, you rocked.

3-25-91
Just a note: Hornsby was absent from all shows from 3-23-91 thru 3-29-91 on this tour.
Excellent Sound. Great Performance. Anytime Jerry does a Stagger Lee, High Time, and a Touch set ender (especially when they could cut out after Promised Land), you gotta believe he was in the mood to play.
As previously stated, the Knick Spring thing started in 1990. No offence to a previous reviewer, but IMHO, this nights Shakedown doesn't hold a candle to 6-22-91's.

It must have been a great weekend
I guess I was at this show too. Are you kidding me? A 15 minute Shakedown to start the show! Great set list, great sound board.

IMO, a strong show
i'm a little more in favor of this show than most here I guess. we all agree it was a great shakedown!
Jerry wore a silk purple shirt this night. you knew it was special from that alone. :)
KICK ASS Space > TOO
I can't believe nobody mentioned it.
with regards to Albany 90....
the Schoeps recordings that are still up here are very, very nice.

Knickerbocker Maddness
Actually, the Knick maddness started the year before with a 3 night run in March. Unfortunately, those shows were taken down due to the Dozin' at the Knick release. Those shows were something else. Check out disk two of Dozin', first night most of the second set.
This run was good, but doesn't live up to the year before. great sound though!

At least it started Knickerbocker madness....
Ok, wasn't the best of shows, but certainly wasn't the worst. Some highlights, IMHO, Shakedown, High Time, Crazy Fingers (always a fave), Spoonful>RL Jam. This was the first year of the springtime ritual that was the Knickerbocker shows, which for some reason always were a wild time.

Great Shakedown
This show ran hot and cold for me.
Fist of all, the Shakedown was one of the best I ever saw - I think it tops Chicago '91 and even Oakland '92 (which I have heard others rave about). Really great. It has some nice midi runs but Jerry doesn't go overboard (I got a little tired of the pan flutes and chain saws). Just when you think the band is about to finish the jam and go back into the song, Jerry gives it a little something extra. It was also cool considering that Jerry opened the previous show with an air tight Help>Slip>Franklin's.The rest of the set is decent but not great. One exception was the first (and only) High Time I saw in 83 shows. Oh well, I'm just glad I saw one and I went ape shit over the occasion. It was also cool to get a Touch after Promised Land. Nice place for it.
But the second set doesn't really go anywhere and it's a shame because it's not like they're on auto pilot: a Greatest Story opener, a Playin' Reprise closer and the below mentioned Russian Lullaby Jam, which was nice - Jerry Band material was always welcome in my book. Unfortunately, aside from the interesting set list, it's pretty anemic (with the exception being the Russian Lullaby jam). At the time, I was doing all I could to telepathically cause Jerry to do Comes A Time out of the Russian Lullaby jam, which had been busted out at the 1990 Oakland run in December. Oh well, cna't say I didn't try.

Russian Lullabye
I'm still dumbfounded nobody mentions the
russian lullabye jam Jerry does out of
spoonful. I remember being at this show and
the anticipation of the dead doing this. . .
was too much. this was officially my last dead
show. saw garcia & weir solo many times west coast after didn't have the heart to see the scene going downhill, just my opinion.

Little that's special here.
This was my first show, and I wish I'd picked a better night. The jams out of Crazy Fingers, Spoonful and into the Playing reprise aren't bad, and it's interesting to hear Greatest Story open the 2nd set. Things seem to stop and start, and magic is in short supply.
