uninspired?
I caught most of the MSG shows and I remember this one as being uninspired, and by that I mean Jerry was not up for it.I think Jerry would have rather been resting back in Marin. Its pretty well known (in Phil's book) that Jerry was not inspired during this time and needed a break but they could not do it for money reasons. Some shows will reveal this and I think this is one of them. Jerry carries off the tunes but just does not seem to be digging in. The rest of the band sounds tight however. Even now the setlist looks great on paper but I recall the energy in the garden as muted on this night. I could be wrong but other shows from this tour stand out as having much more energy than this one. The Picasso Moon is very good as someone mentioned, and I would say the highlight of a rather listless first set.
I can picture Jerry having to open thinking, "Oh ive gotta open, I don't feel like playing Touch of Grey, Miss 1/2 Step, Shakedown, ugh let me try Iko maybe that will get me going". I didn't seem to however.
Very good recording however......

What is the commercial release?
Does anyone know what release this relates to?
5 stars since the system forces me to select a choice, I would love to listen to this and evaluate but I'm not sure of the source.

4 star 1991 dead
Very well played show. I do agree with the first reviewer that Garcia was in somewhat of a slump during this run, however, I do not agree that this is a 2 star show. I think that the 16th and the 17th (this night) actually show Garcia pulling himself out of the slump. His guitar work is very strong both nights (IMHO, stronger than the beginning of the MSG run, including 9-10-91). I know that there is plenty out there that will disagree with me. Oh well.
Revision: to Lobster12, I completely agree with your feelings on the 5-20-92 Shoreline show. It feels like they never clicked that night. Howvere, I do feel the Jack Straw is pretty rocking.

Speed ahead to beantown
Jerry was in his "i don't know if I want to do the dead thing anymore" bit and it shows during the MSG run, except the marsalis show. Great example is the half assed effort on black peter where he doesn't put any effort into the "let's go run and see" verses. Thank God for hornsby shaking some sense into him before the Boston run.
add: dmilks... me and you agree 90% on reviews. Based on that I'm gonna check out this show again. Do me a favor and listen to the second night at Cal expo May 92. I think it's crap but others dig it. Would like your opinion especially since your "Stella Blue" referals were appreciated.
add: dmilks, something tells me we unknowingly crossed paths at a Shoreline show or 2. Still listening to this gig. Still feel the same, but think I am a bit bitter for missing the night before with the Comes a Time. Never liked Black peter so manybe it was an easy target for me. Would love to discuss further...lobster999@

PICASSO MOON!??
This show is certainly not bad, but it isn't the best from the MSG run either. The picasso moon is the highlight of the show, which is good because its a great version of a mediocre song - making it great. Its bad because Picasso Moon being the highlight of a show, means everything else must not have been on. I COMPLETELY disagree with the review below in response to Black Peter. That is my LEAST favorite GD song, and this is a thrill version. As will of the MSG SBDS the sound is great. This might be the worst show of the run, but still a pretty good show.
