Contrary to what the last guy said about strat, jerry royally screws up right after the 1st chorus. Still a pretty good show.

Props to the tapers. This recording is such a gift. Thank you very much. Soundboard ain't gonna' cut it for this one. Excellent job, again. The second set of this show is blazing hot. I was there on the lawn. I was at the 3 Vegas shows before and the band was full of juice for this west coast spring tour. Grungy effects from Bobby, Jerry turned loose after almost going down for good in August, Vince fitting in finally, etc. The vibe was wild out west.
I left this show and handed my tickets for the next 2 nights and Cal Expo to some young Heads looking for a miracle. The vibe while tripping for those shows felt like riding a wave crest of a fat ass wave that was about to crash. A palpable sense of a bubble beginning to really burst. I caught JGB for the Seattle show and first appearance of Lightning Bolt an stayed up high in the wilderness for years to come.

Stratocaster, you must be new to the Grateful Dead and/or you have a limited scope of music comprehension and appreciation. A hallmark of their jamming is "space" and Estimated is a quintessential example, where Jerry, and the others for that matter, deliberately move into "off-sounding" notes and modes to break from the rigid tonal structure of the song and enter more formless and pioneering realms, evocative of your experiences had you ever been adventurous enough to delve into altered states of consciousness (which it really doesn't sound like you have). But these notes aren't blindly random; there's intelligence and intent behind them, though that may not be apparent to all listeners evidently.

this show was the last time i saw the dead, 23 years after the first time i saw them. walking in i found a ticket on the ground. waiting in line to get in a young head was wandering the line mumbling the stardard query "miracle ticket, miracle ticket." when i gave her the ticket i found, well, i'll never forget that look. i had stopped smoking weed a long time ago. the contact high i got at that show was, um, memorable. long strange trip indeed.

I'm dissapointed that some people get so focused on being critical that they miss something quite nice and at least worth a mention in here, like the very nice Morning Dew.

Excellent recording. The show is writhing w/energy and movement even during some odd missteps (that get gathered right back in). Some of the high moments are just unbelieveable.

Subject: Estimated
I had to take a listen to Estimated after Strat descibed such a visual experience. I am listening right now and the first solo is F#*kin ROCKIN, Bobby is feeling the song and the crowd is lovin the jam. The horn lines make the song sound like a cool jazz number from the 40's it takes away from the power of what this song brings but its kinda cool. Bobby is on fire, his vocals are classic estimated. Oh yes there it is outside the box fer sure, GEEZ Man reminds me of Joe Garage ala FRAKE ZAPPA, LITTLE GREEN ROSETTA-GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME. Yeah he slipped away and it did cool off the white hot version. Crash and burn about 12 mins in. Exploration Man, creative License. If you are a Bobby Fan this show is a must, his vocals are quite powerful this show. The Rock-n-Roll Bobby, I always loved.

What a treat to find this document of a piece of my personal story. I could only score one ticket, had to leave my friend outside. What a bummer. My lack of familiarity with the material (at the time), combined with a chunk of unperforated blotter left me with little to say about the performance. Big thanx to Paul and Tony for putting this up here; now I can finally rate this show on the music, not solely on the rather skewed version in my somewhat distorted memory of what I didn't even know I was hearing.

It has been almost 13 years since I attended this show. Feels great to hear it again. Boy do I miss those California shows. So many of them began around 3 or 4 in the afternoon with the first set ending as the sun sets. The second set would begin at nighttime and it was as if you were attending two shows. the feel, the intensity, the passion morphed. BOY DO I MISS THOSE SHOWS!!!!!!!!
As for Estimated, Stratocaster is right. Jerry does get lost but picks it back up after a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, in this case, I think it did adversely affect this rendition. It was just beginning to truly heat up and probably would have changed the entire complexity of the show. Regardless, still a great show and good rendition of Estimated.

This was a real cooker (as was most of this West Coast tour) : As mentioned below the ChinaRider and the "sick" intro to Way to Go are highlights. Smokin' Dew, too.

Nice 1st set. Good times Stranger are well played. Inspired FOTD. Me and My Uncle with the rare "took me a bottle Craked him in the Jaw" Solid Big River. My have been the only one of the year. Don't remeber seeing many after 91'. One of my personal favorite all to rare in 93' West La Fadeaway was the highlight of the set. Jerry really nails the vocals the Band hits all the accents. Vince solo isnt'half bad. Jerry's final solo is blistering. The more you listen to summer 93' you find that on any given song you might be getting the best performance since at least 1990 in some case a decade. And that was it your not going to find anything better in 94-95. Shows from 93' age alot better than 91-92 which I don't even listen to anymore. Pretty good second set. China-Rider really Cooks. Kick ass intro for "Way To Go Home" A really superior audince recording but would like to see a SBD

I don't hear anything like what you describe on Estimated. Jerry's in the framework of the tune the whole time. He doesn't lose it or get lost at all during the song....nice sounding recording. Hmmmm.....'93 Dead was what it was......

Subject: Jerry going clamming...
Subject: Jerry going clamming...
If you're a musician you can relate to the problem of just playing complete horseshit...it happens to the best of us...whether it's spacing on a riff or playing in the wrong key or whatever...anyway, this happens in Estimated Prophet...mind you the tapes sound good and Garcia's guitar is high in the mix, so anything he plays the audience picks up on...good ol' Jerry proceeds to completely forget how to play Estimated and instead delivers bizarre runs of off key horrid clams that are clammering and disturbing and this momentarily throws the band off kilter and you can hear the audience laugh/ gasp/ cheer?! Hilarious, a must hear for comedic relief...the rest of the show is standard...
