Subject: Some enjoyable bits
I was at this double header in Ohio, my home state. Some notable items from this show: Not sure what craziness was happening at the beginning of Victim.
...
My guess is a technical glitch that muted Jerry and Bob. In Big River, Vince lays down a beautiful jazzy piano solo. It is such a refreshing break from the plinky synthesizer sound he usually uses.
As a history buff, I got a kick out of Jerry’s work in Space. He pays homage to Ken Burns’ documentary ‘The Civil War’ which was released in 1990 and still quite popular in 1992. He starts out with ‘Ashokan Farewell’ and then goes into ‘Shenandoah’ at about 3:10 for only about a minute.

...and I was there.
This was the first indoor show with the new digital PA and Monitor, and the they had yet to become familiar with the technology (which ... they never did master). The Jerry final solo in Eyes was heard only by himself, and if the people around me had their own eyes open they would have seen Jerry ~smiling~ and sawing his guitar in half but with nothing from him coming out of the PA...I was in the 10th row and it was all too obvious that Jerry's feed wasn't making it out to the PA...finally Vince had to stand up and gesture to somebody offstage that something was wrong...and it seemed that in a crowd of 16,000 people I was the only one to notice.
As for Black Peter, Jerry spent a fair amount of time screaming in to the mic to Harry Popkick; he was red-faced and PISSED OFF and totally missed a verse because of it....the only redeeming factor was the outro jam, which was really angry because Jerry was, well, really angry.
This was one of those nights where it was really painful to be up close.
If you want to listen to shows that suck harder than this one, I can steer you to the post-space part of the 3rd night Alpine '88, and of course the very last show at Soldier's Field.
Enjoy :-p

First off I have yet to listen to this show except for as it was being played. I wasn't right up front making Jerry, Bob, and Phil uncomfortable either.
...
If I was maybe I'd give it the same bad review most others have. Cause they were too busy watching the band and not listening to them. Frankly I never cared about what the band did. I was more into letting them fill my brain with music to groove to. Now this was not my favorite show but it was well played and in no way deserves the bad reviews that it got. I saw 20 shows off this tour and this one sticks out as one of the better ones. The night before had a better set list. This one may have been better played. The energy level seemed higher the night before too but this show is in no way a snoozer. In fact I'm giving it the highest rating just to make up for the one star ratings it got.

I had a front row seat for the second set of this show. One of the Dead folks came to me and my lady-friend after the show and handed us one backstage

pass (obviously intended for her). Too bad I wasn't down there for the night before this, which was the night to see. Oh well, it was still nice to be right in front of Jerry, and see the band up close and personal.
Although this show is not a mind blower, I do think the 1 star reviews are a wee bit harsh. This show merits at least 2 to 3 stars minimum IMHO.

I sat out for days to get second row tix right between jerry and bob. the quality of this recording is better than the playing. Bob spat right on my
...
face right after I blew a rip at him during victim. His spital flew at"his precious self-control" thats classic--my rip and his spit was uncontrallable. the show is hard to judge because I was so close but listening to the recording- there are a lot better shows that year to download. But thanks for puttin it up so I could archive articles of my own ethnography!

While the boys did tend to play well at Richfield, this wasn't the best. I remember my brother waiting for me outside a lecture hall at OSU waiting for
...
me to finish a chemistry final. Talk about distracted..the only chemistry i was thinking about was LSD. Anyhoo, i'll have to listen to it again. I've had a nice AUD casette version for years. The Black Peter absolutely smokes-Jerry goes off, and Victim and Eyes are nice as well. I will DL this because i was there. Stream the B Peter and tell me i'm wrong.

Y2J was right. In the name of complete objectivity, the Dead indeed laid an egg at this concert. This was the closest I ever was to Jerry, 2nd row face
...
to face with him, and he looked distracted and disgusted through the entire performance. The only concert that was a lesser performance at Richfield was the blizzard show. I agree with bonk's assertions that they tended to play well at Richfield (9-4-91 and 9-10-93 come to mind), but there is absolutely no reason to clog up your hard drive with this nonsense. If you went to this concert and had a fabulous time, your best Dead show ever, and you've been searching for a copy of it far and wide since the day it happened, then by all means download it. Otherwise, there's nothing to relive here.

In the name of complete objectivity you have to admit that the band laid an egg here. Aside from the first set closing Deal, little good can be said about
...
this show. The balance of the set was uninspired, and dare a say...boring?
