Great run
H>S>F was busted out fall 89 yet the Bay Area only had experienced 6/15/90 shoreline. The last one in Oakland was 9/12/85!!! The tune up had the place crackling with energy.
One of the better Slipknots out there Playing in the Band went to strange new places and Eyes out of Space was seem less and gorgeous. These shows were also the first war time GD shows since Vietnam. The Speedway bust out of course spoke to that as did the E from 2/19 US Blues. But this Knockin was special too. Healy had the vocals in quad and the moment wasn't lost on the crowd " Mama put my guns in the ground, I can't use them anymore ". I remember listening to a killer 4 mic mix that a taping savant pal of mine let me run my very own cassette master off of his rig with his extra D6. Its funny he did this SBD transfer too. Thanks Charlie Miller. U still got it!

H>S>F!
For some reason, this is my favorite "Help > Slip > Franklin's." One of those "just exactly perfect" jams.

Eyes
I really enjoy hearing Jerry just rip it up on the eyes doing that flute sound with his guitar. Sounds very jazzy. Good stuff!!

home game
During the 90 & 91 tours, I always felt that when the Dead came home to Oakland it was almost as if we were invited into one of their rehearsals. Especially the shows without Bruce. During the depths of the Playin' jam, it's not hard to imagine that they had almost forgotten that they were performing for anyone other than themselves. The chances that were taken were over the top. I've heard many friends complain that all the best breakouts were on the East Coast, but nowhere else did the Dead play so recklessly as in CA. There is a weirdness to the best moments of this show that never existed when Bruce sat in. Once again, almost as if the audience weren't present and the Dead were playing for themselves. Say what you may about mistakes or rawness or whatever, when the Dead stretched out at a home game there was an intimacy that existed nowhere else.

Decent but not spectacular.
More kickin' organ on Franklin's. Very nice meandering spacey jamming in Playin'. The jam coming out of Terrapin isn't bad, and Vince's work especially shines again like the previous night.
Overall a mostly average show. Good sound, I only heard one minor glitch. Still, it is overshadowed by the night before in my opinion.

Dancin' on the floor
Even though I had a herniated disc in my back and was lying down for most of the show on the concrete behind the seats, trying to avoid getting stepped on by dancing Deadheads, I really enjoyed this show. Great to hear it again! Jerry playin' his heart out; Help/Slip/Franklin excellent. I think that Vince was really fitting in well, a few unsure moments, but some great jamming particularly on Terrapin and Eyes.

The Slipknot from this particular show is magnificent. IMHO, I think it's got to be one of the best Slipknot's the Dead did with Vince and without Hornsby. This show is a very nice SBD, a little heavy on Vince, but not nearly as much as the 2-19-91 SBD. Solid 4 star show. Lots of focused jamming. I think Jerry wanted to play more than sing on this particular night.

Good Show, nice board and fun special guests. The Dragon parade was incredible. This was the best of the 3 shows.

Liquid Jerry
This show is like warm liquid goo...So intense in every way. Not vocally perfect...but it seems as though the whole band is on another planet. The sound of this show is OUT THERE! The Space>Eyes is out of this world without a doubt. I remember listening to this one night and being carried off to another dimension during the Playin'.

Brief moment in time
There were plenty of shows featuring Bruce Hornsby around this time, but he didn't come out west for these three shows at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. I'm a bit biased because I went to this show, but it seemed the band was trying to break out a bit during this 'homestand'. The first night, the 19th, saw the first New Speedway Boogie since 1970, and the second two nights had tease jams that got the crowd very excited -- Other One on the 20th, and Terrapin on the 21st. This night's show is notable for the Eyes of the World that comes out of Space, the last time this ever happened. This recording is very nice with good placement of the band members. Strange keyboards from Vince in places, but he was finding his way and gave a solid performance. All in all, I feel that there are many better shows from 1991, but this one has a very worthy second set and some surprisingly good moments in first set. If you want to hear a slightly different sound than what you hear in the summer and fall tours for 1991, try this show.
