Love this recording from my second birthday! All these years later so proud to be a deadhead!

Always dug this version since I acquired the cassette many years ago...it's not real tight but something about it that makes me smile. Maybe it's the fact that the audience is right there. Whatever...I like this show. And God bless the perrson who made this recording and countless others who did so in many venues over the years. They gave up part of enjoyment of the show to fuss over their gear and worry about getting busted and being thrown out and a hundred other hassles.They went to a lot of trouble. Troopers, all of them. Anyone who loves a good audience recording knows...I will take a decent audience recording over a soundboard any day.

Jerry sounds kicked back, but his guitar playing is aggressive. Definitely a unique sounding show given this.
The first set is quite entertaining. Half-Step, MAMU and China Cat rip.

For Loose Lucy see 3/28 which also features my favorite Half-Step (and a wistful Stella).

This recording really shows off the dynamics of Jerry's guitar tone the way it's suppose to be heard. Turn it up on the Playin' jam. This is way better than any 80's audience tape I've ever heard.

Epic Playin' with the jazz jams that I love and then Truckin until the end is monster. Especially the hot chords on Truckin' and the Other One Phil bombs - each jam is jammed with Jerry just pushing and pushing until there's nothing left and it all melts into August West.

Great recording - sounds best on 11.

A bit on the short side, yes, and maybe only average for 73, but excellent nonetheless. The Truckin>Other One>Space is the STUFF! Especially the little jam in Truckin' that sounds like Jerry's thinking of going into Nobody's Fault but doesn't quite get there, and then the space is stellar. The audience recording, except for some minor skipping around in Truckin', seems just about perfect to my ears - pitch is on, no hiss, not too much crowd noise. This is where you need more than a 5 star scale. This is better than almost any 85 show (3/25/85 being a possible exception), but not nearly as good as say, 6/10/73.

One of the best quality recordings of G.D. you will ever hear.Not just the taping but this is the Dead we all remember.

The vocals are a little low...

I'm a total SBD snob, so I downloaded the board of this show tonight. Took one quick listen, compared it to this source, which I already had, and chucked the board. When it's right, it's right. :-D

Great example of a letter perfect audience recording. When an aud is this well done it's better than any sbd in my opinion. 5 stars all around.

This concert was my first GD concert. For a young budding musician, this was a landmark event in my life...

When I arrived at this concert, I had heard many of the then extent dead albums, and my only exposure to their extended improvising was in Live/Dead and Live in Europe (Truckin... Morning Dew). But nothing prepared me for what I was to experience on July 1, 1973.

Having dosed up (!) immediately prior to arriving at the Amphitheatre, I enjoyed the first set. However, I was really waiting for the extended jams, like those I'd heard on Live/Dead and Live in Europe.

Well, the 2nd set opened with Playin in the Band. None of my previous music-listening experiences prepared me for the jam that was to ensue! It was like a whole new musical world opened up before me. It was one of the greatest highs of my life. And then ... the rest of that incredible second set, culminating with a tremendous Other One!

All of these years I've wondered if it was really as good as I remember.

And now, after all these years, I find such a beautiful recording of that very concert (I'm referring to the AUD recording)! So, I downloaded the second set, turned down the lights and relived that experience. I couldn't believe how great it sounds -- especially the jamming in PITB -- I think among the best versions that I've come to hear!

I thought I'd never hear that great music again. I'm tremendously grateful to those wonderful people who made this resource possible and available (including whoever made this wonderful AUD recording)! THANK YOU!!

Great quality aud for any era, and of all the incredible versions of Playin' out there, this may well be the best (well, maybe 2nd to 12/28/79). The whole concert just crackles with energy. Deep, weird space jams in TOO too.

Yes this is an aud world one worth the downlow - PSST - pass it on......Just take a listen to that sweet sweet geetar - pure love & joy

Great sound for an aud tape of this era. Features an exceptional Playin' in my opinion.
Not the most essential 73 show, but definitely worth a listen.

Best '73-'74 era audience recording I've heard yet (although I admittedly still have a lot of research left to do on the pre-'75 auds in this new boardless world) and for that reason alone gets a four star rating. As mentioned below the vocals are a little low but certainly not inaudible. You may also need to tweak your bass slightly to "feel" Lesh a little more, but Garcia comes across loud and crisp. Other than possibly being a bit short, the show is pretty run-of-the-mill for the time (i.e.,fairly tight with the most noteworthy jamming coming near the very end). I wouldn't rank it with the year's best by a long shot but it's totally worth the download for the excellent "you are there" feeling it captures.

I think this loose lucy kicks ass, Jerry seems to be enjoying it a lot check it out

Get this show!! While the vocals are a little miffy the instruments sound like a modern neumann onstage mix. This show is not the best of the year, however it is a priceless snapshot of what a dead show felt like if you were to close your eyes at a 73 summer show. Best pre-74 audience tape this side of 8-6-71!! Judge for yourself!! Outstanding!!
