Bear's Choice Tracks
Phil,
Has anyone seriously analyzed Phil's playing in 'Hard To Handle', the Bear's Choice version? I'm not a musician but I definitely can hear. I love to hear Jerry and Pigpen on this cut but I tell you - Phil is next level. Truly takes bass playing to another plane.

Bear in contention for best ever soundboard here
First off, the mix right on with that extra bit of Phil, right up front. Bobby is mixed in at a competent level and return plays one of his all star performances. The mix complements the sound of a Band playing together. Beyond that the sound quality is, Imust say, resoundingly exceptional.
The boys play with precision. There a sense of a real personal connection with the audience- "this isn`t a performance this is a party". For me, the highlight was Pig ding a solo acoustic Katie Mae. Hey, he was a competent finger style guitarist, but also shows a real sensitivity in his singing. As far as Caucasian blues singers go this is a moment when I ask myself if he wasn`t the best of his generation. The Dark Star was quite good, but I wonder if I have been forever spoiled by the 9-19-70. Oh, I`ve been listening to the Allman Brothers set from the same evening and they also give their usual all star performance. When I have time, about 4.5 hours then i`ll listen to both sets back to back. Both performances are awesome. The Allman Bothers take no prisoners, but then the GD just do what they do, bringing in a breath of fresh air and creative unity.

i also agree w/ phleshy about the Not Fade Away - killer shit indeed!

NO show and why
Ok there is no show here because it is on Dicks picks volume 4.The thing i have a problem with is that Dick's picks does not give you the whole show. The need to put the songs up that are not on the disc so I can listen to the whole show. This is a great show.If you have not heard it ya need to.I give this show a four only becuse it is missing a few songs. Here they are [0:05] ; Mama Tried [2:31] ; [1:24] ; Hard To Handle [6:06] ; [3:18] ; Monkey And The Engineer [1:32] ; [0:43] ; Dark Hollow [2:37] ; [0:43] ; I've Been All Around This World [4:02] ; [0:18] ; Wake Up Little Susie [2:22] > Black Peter [7:19] ; [0:04] % Uncle John's Band [5:#54] ; [2:30] ; Katie Mae [3:19].

My First!!
Last night Sirius played this and I DVR'd it. I'm sitting here this morning listening to and remembering my first ever Grateful Dead show. I have the chills thinking back 39+ years later about how they grabbed me from the first notes of Casey Jones this night up to and including today. These guys in every incarnation they performed in have provided the soundtrack for my life.
Forever Grateful.

Since you can't find the whole show
here on the LMA, I strongly advise you to go to
Sugarmegs.org and go to their streaming shows (the actual webpage is listed in my Bookmarks as
tela.sugarmegs.org- /asxtela/). You can stream not only 2/14/70 but 2/13/70 in their entirety, late and early shows.
Now to the music, which is not something discussed often in the reviews of these 2 shows. This show, 2/14 is not quite as good as the day before but the music is still quite good. The Drums at 12 minutes is very long-winded but the cosmic NFA>Mason's>Caution>Feedback more than makes up for it. The NFA especially is one of the best ever played. The ABYGN jam in the middle is just superb and a must-hear.

Where's the Rest?
Just like 2-13-70, a lot of this music is missing from DP4. Please consider adding it to the archive.

Please post the rest of the show
I just got out of jail last night and have a dire need to hear Jerry sing me Little Sadie. That sweet acoustic set is not part of Dick's Picks or any other official release. Please post it.
I would be Grateful

Toooo Baaaad
Dick Latvala gave the leftovers to David Gans several years ago. Two cassettes of music were played on the KPFA "Grateful Dead" marathon.
I don't think that GDM is trying to suppress this material since copies are in circulation from the radio broadcast. Why aren't they here? A good question...

Why does the whole show have to be unavailable?
Here's a crazy idea (not to mention one that's fair to all parties concerned): only the tunes that are not available on the Dick's Pick should be available at this location. If it's done for 12/19/73-Dick's Picks 1, why can't it be done for these shows? The early show is next to impossible to find in most collections.
