just loved the 1st set. The band has a very laid back sound going here and the vocals especially harmonies are incredible. Great review by Liz and i totally get what she is saying---- this is on fire material. The last 3 tunes closing Set 1 are just scorching hot!!! Not sure how those opening 5 tunes didn't get played more regularly in that fashion. To me that is perfect coming out of Space music and it sure is mighty fine to open Set Two! Yeah! this is easily some of my favorite Dead not just of 74 but in the big picture scheme of things. "Sitting plush with a Royal Flush Aces back to back" Really like hearing Bertha late in the 2nd set. The sound is like you are on stage and it made me want to participate from air guitar, keeping Rhythm, singing backing vocals,,, man can't let the band down... "And you know that Notion just crossed my mind."

the garden. I know the lyrics to all these songs so much better now...but is the feelings of the music, the love and hate and fear and jealousy and kindness and compassion that makes this show my number one. You know how you felt after a really good show, that night, feeling like you shed and grew a new skin to go with your happy heart and wise mind? This show as recorded gives me that feeling. The heart and soul and genius of the Grateful Dead is here for us to love and share, forever.

WAY Better Sounding than DP24
Can someone please explain to me why this recording sounds about 1,000 times richer, fuller, and louder than the official DP24 release??? This recording
...
makes the show sound a heckuva lot better than I originally gave it credit for being. (Although I am going against the grain of the conventional wisdom to point out that the much heralded Playin>UJB sandwich suffers from some very awkward transitions that are not smooth at all and mar the "epic-ness" of this particular medley version. The jamming in each tune is fine, but there are many better examples of these pairings flowing better into and out of each other.) 3 1/2 stars bumped to 4 for the excellent quality of this recording.

Howdy from OKC
I may be able to clear a few things up here, gang; The Playin' wasn't falsely started. Everyone was totally primed for the WoS. At the break we were trying
...
to figure out what the big deal was; Sound different to you? What the hell's the deal here? Is it us? In general, WTF's going on? Then they came out for set 2 and went into Playin'. Turns out the whole thing was a giant goof. When they stopped playing Playin', The Band was looking around as if something was wrong. All of a sudden the Wall was exposed as they raised these dark curtains that covered the speakers. Bobby stepped to the mike, The Boys started playing and it was fantastic beyond words-Totally different sound. God, I love the Grateful Dead.

This is an evolutionary show for the Dead, also first Playin sandwhich I heard. Bob says that remark about the ones who won their tix because a number

of 13-14 yr old kids had won tix over the radio and gotten their parents to take them. Great quality, a couple songs from this show omitted from final DP include TJ Roses.... First and only Cassidy until 76
Why does Bob say, "You can sure tell the ones that won their tickets over the radio?" I'm guessing there were a bunch of people not really into it or

something? F 'em then. People need to learn to STFU when the Grateful Dead are playin'. And speaking of Playin, what happened? Sounds like Bob's mic dropped out altogether and they had to get it fixed before continuing on.

used to be a big time hater of this show - something always felt off kilter to me. Now I realize it's mostly the 1st set that is kinda weak; I still feel that there is something noticeably off with Garcia at times on this night(a shame because Billy and especially Phil are unstoppable on this recording). Yet, once this second set jam gets going, it is simply amazing, no doubts about that anymore. The first Playin', Earth-shattering Dew, and the transition from UJB #2 back into Playin' are just nuts. This has finally grown to become one of my new all-time favorite jams!
