Subject: ONE OF THE BETTER .........
I loved this place am lucky to have been to all three years they played here. 82, 84, 85,seems every year they played special shows here. 1982 was the better of three to me. Yet this one here was nice. I too loved the scarlet touch fire having only played it TWICE its kinda hard to say this ones better then the other. As far the rest of the show kinda simple. I give it 4 stars cause I loved the place.
Like many others on tour back then there was a great vibe going during this tour with our crew.
many here seem to enjoy speaking of Jerry being on this or that. He was our hero why do we comment on stuff that is hurtfull.I would rather enjoy them for who they were and even for whatever they were.A great band with tons of compassion for us on tour.I hope we could do the same for them and be more comassionate towards them who cares what anyone was back then its history now. Forever glad was on tour threw these years.

This was a wonderful show, under the stars on a beautiful summer night in the Ivy covered Starlight Theatre. It will always stand out in my mind as the prettiest Throwing Stones I've ever heard... back when Bobby was still using the "Waltz with the stars and celestial balls" line... I liked it so much more. Very solid show... in fact, a very solid tour!

WOW! What a great recording of a hot show. The boys just slay it on the opening Alabama>Promised Land....and check out the Scarlet>Touch>Fire.... very unique and special. Very jazzy, cool improv between Fire and Dont' Need Love (labelled Space).
I love the sound on this one....This recording is definately FOB and probably recorded on a PCM beta VCR. Just guesses, since there is no written lineage. It has an airy, 3D soundfield with Brent in the right channel and lots of Phil, just as Healy mixed it at the show. Sweetness.

I saw the first half of this tour - Harrisburg, Saratgoa, merriweather. Saw Starlight in '85 and it is in fact an unbelieveable venue. These were trulky great times, the last greate era before touch/in the dark/mtv/stadium shows. This sumemr tour smoked and the '85 tour was even hotter (mor eon that in another space, porbbaly my favoprite tour I caught).
I highluy recommend this and the rest of this tour. As a friendly correction to Trey, they only did teh Scarlet>Touch>Fire combo twoice, both in '84 and in the summer - this was the first, then the Greek 7/13 - the night they did Dark Star. They did Scarlet>Touch for the first time at the Hult in May, then Scarlet>Touch>Mr. Fantasy at Cuyahgoa Falls 6/29. All recommended, and Cuyahoga is another great venue (Blossom is awesome, saw that in '85 also.)

very few scarlet>touch>fire's out there so appreciate them when they pop up. As much as 84/85 have drug issues I have to say the creativity and odd ball set lists get me going. Good show.. Great list

Awesome show and energy! After listening to a '94 Oakland show before this one, my faith in the Dead is renewed. The SB>Touch of Grey segue blew my mind; Touch>Fire, not so much. Touch of Grey was jumpin'/real energy and optimism compared to more thumpin' '90's versions. . Loved Bobby laughing at himself with the dyslexic word slip on Throwin' Stones. And a real cookin' NFA. Yeah!!!

Killer venue, small 7000 plus capacity out door ampitheater lawn, pavilion and fully loaded with castles on the sides old-school mid evil. Never been there but, I heard enough and seen some cool photos. Summer of 84 this was a killer stop for sure, the place to be no doubt. Pine Knob has sort of a similar set-up and vibe. The tour was going gonzo in 84 esp heart of the summer in the mid west.
Heads and Dead were going bonkers, heavy Shakedown St. vending scene (without too much hassle) the parking lots of paradise were peaking still some what low key family style pre-touch. These were great times for heads and everyone involved, having max fun at bang out shows despite the neg sentiment. They were white hot Jerry was high as a kite (persian)before the shows around this 83-84 tour some of my favorite stuff to listen to. I give it a 5 for good aud recording and the show is good. The Candyman's sweet and Jerry shredds Scarlet. Iam a fan of the Scarlet>Touch>Fire. The transition is pretty sweet and kind of spacey.
*nice audience recording and Brents in full effect with his trippy synth.

The Scarlet > Touch > Fire combo was broken out a number of times in the mid 80's. This could be the best one. I agree with a previous reviewer when he said it is better than 7/13. There is also a great S > T > F from 8/30/85 that I haved always loved. You know the first few tapes that you get in your collection that become sentimental favorites.
The transition here from Scarlet into Touch is sweet. Jerry starts everything and I love when Brent kicks in. Good stuff. The show is worth getting.

I know it is nearly impossible to claim a particular show as the greatest. There are as many different opinions on that as there are deadheads.Having said that, i believe that this show should rank up there with the greats(maybe I'm just partial to the home-town shows). This is an excellent recording and it brings back some very fond memories of that summer so long ago. This show is quickly becoming one of my personal favorites. The sound quality is awesome and the band was smokin. Peace all

If youre a fan of 84 you'll like this one. Nice Alabama>Promised Land to get things started. Cassidy has a nice jam at the end. Fadeaway has that 84 menacing tone to it. Bobby is grate on Esau. A nice heavy Loser with some good runs by Jerry. LLR has a grate solo and a nice Bobby Rap. And Deal of course never fails with Jerry ripping some fuzzed out solos for his big turn at the end. The meat of this show is the pre-drums with a very energetic and tight Scarlet>Touch>Fire. Scarlet is played at a quick pace and has some solos by Jerry. The segue into Touch is entrancing; the whole band is completely in sync. Jerry shreds the Fire with an especially blistering third solo. The Dont Need Love is awesome imho. Brent is very emotional on this one. Not much action after post-Space, except for the NFA, which has some smoking runs by Jerry. If anything get it for the Scarlet>Touch>Fire. The Fire is def better than the one at the Greek on the 13th. A good show, but not mindblowing.

The first set is noted for the energy and power of several otherwise overplayed songs. Alabama>Prom Land screams with pride straight from the heatland. Phil is dropping bombs during West L.A. and Esau and Rain are Weir treats during his bi-sexual stage. Second set has a nice pre-drums Scarlet>Touch>Fire but Jerry had to drop the kids off early and left Brent searching for companionship. Overall great recording of a performance noteworthy for tension filled atmosphere between band and crowd. A junkie delight....
