bit of an off night but improves in set 2
The review from Doug below captures it so I just want to add that the Voodoonola videos of this run are quite revealing. As was mentioned, JG seems pretty perturbed throughout most of the first set, muttering "motherfucker" after forgetting a second verse of Jack-a-Roe and throwing Vince a look when he doesn't come in with his solo fast enough in TLEO, (he stops playing, puts his arms down by his side, shakes his head and says something to VW in what appears to be a ticked off manner. Promised Land is indeed the high point of the set and it's great. Jerry in particular is all over it. Second set is pretty solid throughout. Again, on the voodoonola video, check out the obviously tripping dude in the 80's-shorts being shown the secrets of the universe during the China/Rider transition. Good stuff.

Vegas Baby!
Hats off to the boys. So glad I made it. Excellent recording of an excellent show. We made history for being some of the biggest shows Vegas had ever seen. Thank you Grateful Dead and Jerry!

its so hard to listen to Jerry dying, i cant listen to him without thinking about his life force weakening and his beautiful bright beaming light fading away....no rating...all you can say is its a fn shame

Outstanding drums and space
The drums are a seriously wild and psychedelic ride from Messrs Hart and Kreutzmann that gets deeply weird and intense. Much melodic marimba like sounds are juxtaposed against deep tribal beats that become increasingly more spacey and electronic. It bleeds into a long and adventurous space segment. The rest of the show is well played, but is not very interesting to me with the one exception of All Along The Watchtower. The Dead said pretty much everything that could be said with those tunes years before. Drums and space however are a completely different animal and is where the creativity resides.

holy parting of the skies
When weir goes off on looks like rain I think they were parting the skies none of them looked behind the stage but holy cow those clouds were heavy and the wind blew the dust bowl inside out. Then the cracking of the lightning and the banging of the thunder it made the happy paper we were on catch on fire.I think this band versus nature is one of my best shows didn`t need the paper.

They love each other....because the music never stopped. The band played these songs for us and looks like rain washed away the pain.

Rain, etc.
One of the other reviewers mentioned the cooling rain. We could see the storm coming across the desert. As soon as the rain clouds came over the Silver Bowl, they parted and went around the stadium. Clouds all around and blue sky in the middle. Awesome!

HOT HOT HOT!!
Man was it hot at this show!! Sprinklers were set up all over the bowl to keep people from passing out. Started out clear and hot but as if by magic (which dead shows were of course) we got a little thunder, cooling wind and rain from off Mt. Charleston as Bob went off on Looks Like Rain. Man, the static and music were wonderful in the air during this show.

The show where I GOT it
This was my second Grateful Dead concert, but the first time I'd "dropped in" for a show. Subsequently, it's the first show where I was able to comprehend the entire scope of the Grateful Dead experience, which went far beyond just the music.
Musically speaking, this show tends to be forgotten in the shadow of the next two nights but there's some sweet moments. Though the first set is somewhat slow, TLEO and Memphis Blues were rare kickdowns that made up for some technical problems.
Second set highlights are the post Playin' jam, a smoking Sugar Magnolia and a really nice Weight encore. Probably more special to me because I was there, but it's hard to forget a show where you're out there and watching a group of 10 deaf people sign to one another and "feel" the show by holding balloons.

Monitor Mix?
Not quite sure what is meant by monitor mix. This is not one of those cheesey scanner recordings. Maybe it is because bobby forgets to push his little switch when he is requesting changes in the mix and you can hear him through the PA, just like at the show.
Overall sound quality is outstanding. vocals are a little rough in spots but the sound of the music is incredible. Great show especially the jam into space. Full blown DAT with no flips or gaps. Extra long Playin is just one of the other treats of this show and post drums is especially strong. Some auds have a prob with wind noise here so the board is the way to go! Only 4 stars due to the mino probs with the vocals, otherwise outstanding!

Sound prob's and eerie weather were no match...
Wind, rain, and bolts of lightning striking the ground off in the distance ...*eerieness*... The PA probs didn't discourage the band though; they were *on*, and there was magic this day. It was hard to tell if it was the LLR or the actual weather producing the thunder (it was both). Get it... :)
