I am gonna sit right here till i DIE..
Spent the 1st set over in the jools, give the nod to this recording as i start Set Two because it is has better overall sound clarity. Kinda tough to review

the full 2nd set because of cuts here but I guess that is reason enough for the purchase of the appropriate and corresponding DP. I will 100% agree with Mind Wonderin regarding Row Jimmy. The harmonies are fantastic. To get both Phil and Donna singing like that with Jerry's Lead vocal. I guess this would be the tune i would pick to turn on a deep and complex person to the band. A truly beautiful song and in top form here. I always enjoy Garcia's backing vocals on that last line of Promised Land! So we catch probably just the very tail end of the jam away from Truckin. Cool to hear Phil go at it with Billy. Can't go wrong with 15 minutes of a Super Sonic Other One!!! IN A CIRCLE... "The HEART has it's seasons, evenings and SONGS of it's own"

Was often seen as a pairing with the show-before, even before they were [mostly] released on Dick's 28. This show is just a bit better than

2/26- Lincoln but the recording is much better, making repeat listening easier/palatable. It garnered a big reputation - even in the days when heads were willing to listen to low gen mud. There's a 2hr 2nd Set - big show from a famous tour/month. Truckin', Sugar Mag & Morning Dew were missing from circulation before the official release, but DP28 is missing Promised Land (didn't there used to be a better source? With a partial Dew?). First Set. Starts to gel on Beat it on Down the Line-3 and the rest is all good. They Love Each Other is one of the best '73 versions (though not quite 6/10 or 10/19). Sugaree is smooth but still not what it became post-'76. Box of Rain with Donna was an exhibit for her - maybe her finest. El Paso likewise for Keith. The end jam of He's Gone is genius and Donna's having a good show. Second Set. Whopper set starting with a stellar sequence through Row Jimmy (which is an example of how they could sing). Promised Land is just a little flubbed and only stands out from surrounding perfection. Truckin' is punchy and full of fills, jamming out to a Bass-and-Drum solo. Eyes of the World is in the middle of this 44min sequence (lazy country home) and not exactly like others on the tour. Dew gets going after 4min, turns dynamic. Sugar Mag is not the tightest of the show but still caps a great set. 1st Set: B- 2nd Set: A- Overall = 4¼ stars Highlights: They Love Each Other - one of year's best He's Gone - great end jam and Donna fine 2nd set - two incredible sequences: China>Jimmy & Truckin>Dew, all of it uptempo SOURCES: The weiner.15386 sounds better than the jools.9986, which is hissy and has balance problems, however Promised Land is from a different source and pitched way too fast. It needs -2%. Dick's Picks v28 patches the cut in Eyes with the one from 2/22 (2:40 to 4:34); and patches Morning Dew with the Dew from 6/29 (:45 to 1:17).

Another great from Feb 73!
Cold Rain & Snow is a great intro, they are gelled together from the first notes. They wouldn't play this again for several months. Great cohesion

here. BIODTL will actually receive some accolades from me for the Jerry solo, perfect. TLEO features a fine solo with sass building up, Phil is officially on, as is Jerry. Mexicali is a fierce little Polka defined by Phil, the band is really coming alive. Sugaree is where energy is added with the aforementioned cohesion, we've got a killer show here! Box of Rain El Paso is pretty much perfect, in particular Billy and Jerry He's Gone is an A+! The outro jam in particular has amazing precision and energy. Jack Straw China>Rider brings us firmly into X factor during the transition. Before that, in the first solo, the energy is undeniable. Once the perfectly executed segue is into Rider theme there is yet more X factor, definitely an A+ combo here. Big River Row Jimmy Promised Land opens the second with full rock and roll fury. Truckin>TOO>Eyes>Dew The meat sequence won't let you down. It pushes at a nice tempo throughout, while also giving extended jams. Truckin' starts off rolling, and by the time we get to the explosion, it's sailing downhill with no brakes! The explosion is another X factor moment, with amazing blues scales coming out of it by Jerry. This heads toward a clear TOO theme, and the Phil bombs bring us firmly in. A steady jam ensues, with all team members working hard to push further and further in this focused jam segment. Around 5 minutes in they are in a clearly defined jam, as defined by Phil, but I don't know what it is. Verse starts after 7 minute mark. The post verse is intense, and gets into exploration jamming right away. Then we get into a hyper-speed Tiger! It's not the type that tears your face off, but it leaves a smoking crater for sure! Without ever doing the 2nd verse, typical for the era, TOO goes back into a thematic jam that slowly descends into the opening notes of Eyes of the World! The Eyes is a great ride full of harmony, energy and good vibes. The outro verse jam in particular is quite exploratory. A+ Eyes. Morning Dew is a much more somber choice as the ballad brings us back to the real world. It does so with its classic build up and releases. Sugar Magnolia closes out the set with RnR. We Bid You Goodnight is a throw away encore. __________________________________ Performance Summary This is a great show, cohesive from the get go, with energy building rapidly and then being sustained. Highly recommended. Sound Quality A+, The official release has great sound. The SBD necessitates lowering Phil a bit.
Seemed like an average show. The other one was sweet. Eyes was nice but someone?? seemed effed up. Good sound. AWBYG was tired but heartfelt, I think.

Dick's Picks 28 leftovers -- where the heck are they??!!
I'd read about this in Deadbase V, and welcome the chance to hear it. The bass & drums is short but interesting. Phil's intro to The Other One is

loud and strong. They jam for about seven minutes until Weir sings the first verse. Then they go off into space for another eight minutes, and do not return....Not the sharpest soundboard in the drawer, but the overall sound on these tracks seems decent enough....Eyes seems average for 1973. At about six minutes they launch into an extended jam. At the end (17 minutes) you can hear them transition to Morning Dew (which would be followed by Magnolia).
