Just saw Trey and Khraungbin at the Berkeley Greek.......boy howdy mofo killer venue!
I'll rate after.....

Hot Scarlet>Fire.
Brent really finds some awesome ways to get his instrument into the mix.
Estimated>Eyes>Drums>OtherOne is quite lengthy, but that's not a bad thing at all.
Good show, not especially adventurous, but with more than enough energy to merit 4 stars.

Jamboree!
Gotta agree with mgags and the Capn, this show is sweet! Something quintessentially West Coast about this show, which makes me regret never having been to one out there. Killer setlist, great long jams, plenty o' energy and a double encore. If I'd been at this show, I'd have been on my fourth or fifth pair of pants by the opening chords of Brokedown. Some funny banter at the beginning too.
Good ol' Grateful Dead: gone but never to be forgotten!

Back before my day
There are beautiful photos of the band and crowd online and it looks like the band is enjoying themselves. These shows have a magic to them that stands out not unlike Frost 82'. Bobby is laying down some interesting textures. It's a breath of fresh air listening to these natural sounding analog recordings after sampling the digital 1990 spring tour recordings. The sound quality is very good and gets much better about 2 minutes into Shakedown. Check out Palo Alto,Alpine and Iowa City 82's.

Rest of the show is good, especially The Other One (for the early 80's). Would like to hear the Scarlet>Fire and Estimated>Eyes someday.

Actual Times May Differ...
The timings provided by Capn DDose are off by 33%. He seems to be assuming a 1-to-1 ratio of meg-to-minute on the VBR MP3 files, but that ratio only works for 128K compression, and the VBR MP3 files on the Archive are higher quality than that.
That being said, this is definitely a great show, and a long one. Worth a listen.

18:50 Scarlet AND a killer first set? - MUST HEAR THIS!!!
This show always stood out for me as there are 6 songs before drums and a double encore which usually is a good sign this is going to rock. It does. First set has a screaming Loser>Little Red Rooster & Ramble on Rose, Then closes with a sizzling Let it Grow.
Set II has a 33 minute Scarlet>Fire which is rare enough but it is really great. Killer Sampson and then an 18 minute Estimated into a 13 min Eyes both smoke - This is definately the longest pre drums of 1982 and I think one of the best for a year that was pretty lackluster. Hek Space is 25 mins long followed by an 18 min Other One - This is a really long set for any year
* Brent does own this show check out the cool organ at the beginning of Other One.
** It's so funny Mr. Charlie remembered Steely Dan playing between sets, they also played Dave Brubeck Quartet around this time as well but I do remember Hey Nineteen....

A great Brent show...
This show is really hot. Great intensity, all of the boys in good voice, though Jerry starts Shakedown poorly, making you think it's going to be one of THOSE shows where Jerry creaks painfully throughout. Not to worry! It's a temporary thing, trust me.
Now, any show that opens with Shakedown is good in my book, even when the Shakedown is second rate, as this is. The jamming's a bit off, and Jerry doesn't have it together yet vocally (see above). I can't help comparing '82 Shakedowns to the masterpiece performed at Starlight in that same year, and this one is weak by comparison.
This tiny blemish is more than compensated for by a top-shelf set list (especially the Estimated-Eyes), great sound quality throughout, and a great up-tempo feel to the whole affair. Not 5 stars -- I reserve that for the very, very best -- but put near.

Peaked at the Greek
I remember this show if only because I ate a puddle during the Deal from the nite b4. But did that keep me away? Thankgod there was that keg behind one of the science bldgs. down the road on this sunny May morn...The Hells Angels were backstage in force this show. You can hear one of 'em idling and revving their hog during drumz. A nice long 2nd set that seemed to go on forever. The only set of the three-show run I sat down for, watching the "Bay's green edge" from the top of the Greek while Garcia sang those very words in Brokedown. Golden California sunshine as the band drifted away. The Greek '82 run was illuminating. Dragged my Humboldt University dorm floor to these shows...And then I od'd on Liquid! How embarassin...

The kids they dance and shake thier bones
Can't say I remember much about this show. Nothin jumped out at me at the time...pretty solid effort I thought. (making that comment made me realize how spoiled I have been. What would I give to be back at the Greek seeing the boys play this show. I might change pretty solid effort to fucking amazing!)
The only thing that I can contribute is an anecdote located at the axis of dimensions of time and space.
Here it is: TIME-It was between sets. "Hey Nineteen" by Steely Dan was playing on the PA. You know the super smooth jams in that tune "NICE". Well I was catching the entire vibe. SPACE-At the top of the lawn in the back in the sun. The jam felt like it was going on for 10 minutes. Really groovin. I look down towards the stage and see some cutie pie (female) groovin hard to the left of the stage just as she looked up. I waved turned around and waved again. She mimicked me so hat I would know that she was waving at me. I looked around and it appeared that we were the only two people really diggin that tune. Anyway, that's all. Just a moment in time. Perhaps a dream I dreamed one afternoon long ago.

Not sure why this show is not as reviewed or touted as the night before, or the 4/17-19 run...but I think this show is bursting with flavor. It may not be as "heady" as the night before, but it deserves a listen and a dance in your apt. by yourself (or with loved ones). Check it out, and behold its beauty!

An excellent addition to anyone's collection.
1st Set: 222 seconds of nervous crowd anxiety and anticipation lead into a spooky funkasaurus "Shakedown." Jerry's lead vocal may be thin, but one can sense by Brent's eagerness that he's got the 'eye of the tiger' tonight. Bobby's rather high in the mix, but he's offering a keen rhythmic counterpoint that meshes nicely with Jerry during the late 9's into the 10's. As Bobby reaches his apex, Brent colors in the gaps. The vocal outro enters at
12:15 after Jerry's some Jerry missles. Very nice version. But we're just getting warmed up as Bobby provides us with a blistering "Promised" to keep things speedy and rocking. Awwww...we're still in warm territory as evidenced by "TLEO." Brent's patience filling out the spaces in the late 3's early 4's shows off his blossoming maturity as the Dead's 'key' man. Jerry's leads are coherent and purposeful which brings a 'snap' to "Mama." "Mexicali" is notable for Jerry taking off, thought they could use a slight lower audible Bobby in the mix. Before the final verse, Bobby- "Everyone sing along..." "Loser"'s solemn heavyness adds dimension to this so far blithe 1st set. Things start to get hot and heavy with a sweaty "Rooster." Just so everyone knows, the 'Rooster' means 'shit to Brent. He's going to fuck with his henhouse...' Brent's a meanie like that. Jerry's got a precise waving riff leading us into "Ramble." That dangling strings's teasin...a cat chasing a yarnball..."Le it Grow." Jerry takes command during the mid-section, and is doing some phenomenal playing all throughout the 5 and 6's.
2nd Set: A hard-charging "Scarlet" opens up proceedings very nicely. Bobby adds a nausea/upset stomach sound to his excursion during the late 7's/early 8's. "Fire" is further evidence that everyone is on the same page tonight. Solid playing all-around. Hip-hoppers must know It's easy to look good while dancing. The grooving party continues with a non-descript yet hot "Samson." Ballad spot time with Jerry as the "Ship"'s captain. All night, I have Not purposely ignored the drummers output...as their work is n'sync with each other and the intended tone of the song. The wonderfully generous song selection has seduced me by now...so the fact that Jerry's notes aren't sledgehammers, merely daggers isn't frustrating or distancing. His tangents starting in the 8's are causing minor epileptic shudders. The plane becomes grounded but warm and cozy as we're heading inside "Eyes." "Drums" is a pound-fest; at 10 imagine you're 18 and left to your own devices- an Indian set loose in pre-colonial days or Amazonia. (You know, boy to man) Anyhoo, the noodling becomes eerily silent as we're heading towards "OO" territory. Unfortunately, not much happens during the beginning of this elongated version. The train's effortlessly running through the night...but there are little in the way of exciting detours. Check out Jerry late 6/early 7. Bobby cheering on his backup vocals during the 1st "coming around..." A short contained "Stella" follows. Decent, and Jerry manages a few lines of tender notes...but this is far from best of quality. Expecting a natural segue into a set-closing "Around" I'm surprised by the side detour to "Miracle." It's fine as this and the always welcome "Casey" feel like icing to sophisticated dessert delicacy.
Yes, time for Bobby goofy cheese as they go into one of their least inspired covers, "Satisfaction." The show finally concludes with the rightful "Brokedown."
So, if they would have ended the show with a 2-5-78 worthy "Around" and gotten rid of 'Miracle,' 'Casey' and 'Satisfaction,' this show would topple 4 stars.
As it is, 4 stars-best of the run.

I Finally Found My Favorite Dead Show !!!!!!!
I've looked for this show for years and I finally found it here in a much better format than I've ever had it before. So much for the old Dead Hour copy that got Sublime recorderd over the 2nd set :-(. Could never seem to find it anywhere on the the Internet or among any of my friends. The guys are rocking it the whole show and pour more emotion into the music than I've ever heard. The scarlet fire is amazing and the finish with Satisfaction into Brokedown Palace is moving. Good quality show on the whole, maybe a few spots where the sound could've been a little better adjusted. Grab this show while you can, because this has been very difficult for me to get for a long time.

GOD BLESS THE GOOD OL' GRATEFUL DEAD!!
Its shows like these that make me wish I couldve seen the Good Ol' Grateful Dead. This show shows all sides of the Dead. They rock kick ass from pillar to post, yet they play with such emotion such beauty, that it hardly sounds like the same band. The setlist speaks for itself. Stella Blue and Brokedown Palace are crushing. Everything else rocks Mega Hard. Garcia is on fire. Brent is on fire. The Other One sounds like something out of 72 Europe. This show has a lot of feeling. The Shakedown. Garcia is so fast on the post Estimated jam. This show is a must have as is the whole Greek Run. Mindblowing.
Peace.

Bobby clinic
Had the cut-up, hissy-high-gen SBD of Set 1 and the S>F for years. Despite all its flaws, I kept going back to it, b/c it's just a great performance all-around. Bobby's guitar is way in front in the mix, but (imho) it doesn't distract too much from the music, and, in fact, provides a prime example of how critical his guitar was to the boys' sound. Even on a tune like TLEO, his guitar work is compelling (check out the harmonics). During the Shakedown he's a funky mofo, and at the end of Fire, when it sounds like their winding down, he's smack in the middle of a great little build-up before the Scarlet reprise finish.
Also great is the on-stage banter, which is so prevalent on 82 SBDs.
