Shake it out west little b*tch!

I (kind of) remember tripping heavily one afternoon in college on two or three pure white-on-white tabs, with just enough mental wherewithal left during the come-up to pop this show into the CD player. Electric Dead would’ve been too intense, I reasoned, and surely something acoustic would help me relax and enjoy the doses. I’m not sure how much of the show I made it through, but I do remember the Deep Elem Blues kicking my stoned ass, with tons of tension, and Jerry’s vocals swinging in and out of focus against a chopping, against-the-grain groove from Bob and Mickey. I remember watching my speakers seemingly shifting and contorting, spilling out the music, with the wall behind them dripping against the green and purple acid-induced muck that was filling my field of vision. When it started to sound like Garcia was singing backwards in another language, I knew I was in for a ride. That’s the last thing I remember.

Fast forward several years, I selected this one for the long ride home from the last ever Dead & Company shows at SPAC, the perfect musical accompaniment for a sunny Monday drive through the counties of Saratoga and Montgomery. The rest of the world was at work, and I was beaming with that post-show glow, enjoying a Canadian road soda and a great view of the land of farms, horses, and forests. Even as far west as the Chittenango Travel Plaza, the upstate and midwest deadhead hoards were swarming home. There must’ve been a dozen tie-dyes piling towards the bewildered Chic-fil-A staff. This time around, I was able to dial into 9/20/70 with more focus and sobriety, and now feel that I can give a more thorough assessment of its overall quality.

From the opening notes of the robust, majestic Uncle John’s Band, you can tell it’s unique. Even by 1970 standards, there’s nothing like this. This isn’t just the usual ‘70 acoustic duo of Bob and Jerry. Phil’s timbery bass, the shimmering cymbals, and rustic mandolin give this one a rosy backwoods flavor unmatched by any other acoustic set I’ve heard. This is the American Beauty band, plucked from the studio and placed lovingly on the Fillmore East stage.

When they finally plug in the electrics, it’s a healthy balance of their brand new hits and fun covers that they’d been doing since ‘66, like Sitting on Top of the World, Big Boy Pete, and Me and My Uncle. Easy Wind is filthy, while Sugar Magnolia is bright, jumpy, and still very fresh. Attics hits some incredibly emotional heights. The roaring 44-minute sequence of NFA > Caution > Feedback > Goodnight is as great as you’d hope. It’s the band of many styles: the country soul of Rosalie McFall and the hopping sizzle of China > Rider, the brisk, timeless colonial pride of Uncle John’s Band and the slow, sly, hovering Candyman.

Many years later, 9/20/70 continues to stand, and always will stand, as an absolutely legendary Dead show that lives up to the fanfare.

The whole show is amazing, but the jam in Easy Wind is SUBLIME!!! It will have the Kundalini energy crawling up your spine and out your head and connecting you with all of creation in no time!!

I listened to all of the acoustic sets from 1970 up to this date in this one is just incredible. I mean David Nelson and David grisman same show. I'm pretty sure that didn't happen had any other from 1970. Plus you have all the American beauty songs the previous acoustic sets didn't have them. I listened to this a few weeks ago so I forgotten some of the details but I loved listening to the show and played it twice this needs to be released!

This year or next or some years from now people will happen on exceptional live concerts like this and once they have listened and then they will begin to save certain songs and share other concerts and pass along on that they have heard an American band that sounds like no other and they will too understand how really special they were.

No doubt I may be wrong but I think someone (Not Bear) was playing with the volume during Caution to make it sound trippy (I've done that during Space but only playback) It fades in and out seemingly on cue with the rhythm. Or it happened a few tape generations from the source

Thank you for putting this up. This is the show from the night I was born and it is awesome. My son and I were blown away by the acoustic set. I have a new favorite Brokedown, he has a new favorite Deep Elem. Big Boy Pete was jumpin'. I never heard that song before and I loved it. I just found this show so I don't know what the previous audio sounded like but thanks to whoever cleaned it up. I thought it sounded pretty damn good. The reviews that are on here (and other recordings on this site) have taught me more about The Dead than maybe anywhere else. I didn't really grow up listening to a lot of Dead. In Philadelphia we thankfully had Pierre Robert or I may have never heard more than Truckin' and Touch of Grey. Between this site and Spotify, I have really been able to get to hear a wide selection of Dead all day if I want and I want more often than not. To quote Mr. Robert, "God Bless The Grateful Dead"! And God Bless all you Deadheads who take care of my 22 year old when he travels to see Dead & Co w/o me.

Wow, this is good.
The big acoustic number for me is RxR Blues which has a different feel then it does electric.
They don't really stretch out with David Nelson on Mandolin but the gist comes across nicely.
The SPEEDWAY is potent and the first extended jam.
Ripple and Brokedown are just lovely even though it is the Electric ATTICS that brought my tears.
It seems like PIG is somewhat AWOL for the acoustic maybe some harp in there somewhere?
His first vocals are on Big Boy Pete
He rises up on Easy Wind.
Sugar Magnolia with out of kilter harmonies
is rough on the ears but with hindsight
easy to tell it is headed in the right direction monster NFA
The Caution is Pig with the band in tow or visa versa
It is easily the biggest psychedelic part of the evening
I guess it depends how much you dig the acoustic/ electric format. They pulled it out in 70 and 80 and perhaps it would have come around again if Brent had not passed.
I got to see Garcia acoustic a few times and he was great.
Jerry had the intimacy thing down and could connect with an audience during an acoustic set. (of course he could do that in an 80,000 seater as well) For a while I was concerned about if I should get more selective with my ratings but I got to tell you i really enjoy the music and if anything i feel like i under rate shows from 1980 on.
I give just about everything with good sound quality 4 to 5 stars because this band was above average almost every night they played. That is why I followed them from city to city. I really enjoyed their music. Now that I get to listen to so many great shows with PRISTINE SOUND yes, I have become more selective as far as sound quality goes but i appreciate the music this band made. Yes it can be interesting to get reviews that really get deep into how the band is performing but at the end of the day. My litmus test is do I get off on the show? Does it work? I am a Christian and I listen to much Christian music and I just would like for a Christian band to come along that was bible sound and could jam. I do recommend Hillsong United the sister (Taya) in that band who does their lead vocals is a modern day Janis Joplin as far as lead vocals go.

The acoustic set at the beginning is fine. Good sound and inspired playing. Very nice but I'm more more interested in the electric jamming side of things. And that's where this show falls short. The mix is often weird, with Bobby way loud and Jerry very quiet, most of the vocals come out of the right speaker and then there is lots of tape damage. There's some nasty muffled distortion coupled with muffled oscillating sound that pretty much runs throughout Caution which otherwise is a good version. Overall the playing by the Dead is good, Bobby especially and you can really hear him because of the f-ed up mix, but nothing revelatory or really mind bending occurs. It's a good show, not a great one. The energy is middling. If you want to hear shows that destroy this one in playing and sound I suggest the Fillmore East shows from January second and third and of course Feb 11, 13, 14. 5/15 is also very good.

Jerry did play piano on To Lay Me Down. Your ears do not deceive you.

Maybe the best acoustic set from them I've ever heard. So good....yesssss. Love it, love it, love it...God bless the dead. I was fortunate to catch the return of to lay me down in Hampton in 1988 and its great...this version is so pretty. Sounds like an orchestra. Jerry ain't bad on the keys. Never knew he played piano on stage....obviously pedal steel but not piano. Good show.

While Jerry playing the piano on To Lay Me Down is a wonderful highlight of this show, it's Bobby's inspired playing throughout is what makes this show a winner. A bit of an unusual role-reversal for most of Easy Wind, with Bobby tearing it up on lead while Jerry holds down the rhythm. While not usually a fan of Sugar Magnolia this rendition smokes. Attics brings a tear to my eye. An unusual show with highlights galore, don't pass this one up.

Whoever mentioned about the separation of the players - is right on the money. I attended the late show that night and trust me - this version through my BW speakers is WAY BETTER! Of course, the experience of the live show is something that is indescribable. I remember the light show (Josh White I am pretty sure) which included some hilarious cartoons and some other pretty weird stuff going on. This was my third or forth FE show and I my memory of which night was which is a bit vague. I have ticket for this show, so no vagueness there. Thank you all who taped this show and worked on the tapes. It was all I could do to find the right train to get to the Fillmore!

I just want to try and clear something up - we watched in awe as jerry played the piano on To Lay Me Down. This was my last of many FE and Port Chester shows and most had big acoustic sets - but never had we ever seen JG tickle the ivorys. You do not forget that! BTW today I toggled back and forth between Harpur college acoustic set and this one. Both are superb but this one tops because of Phil being on bass (there is no bass track on Harpur) and the additions of the mandolins. To my ear both Grisman and Nemson take turns filling in with mandolin. Grisman is unquestionably playing on ripple.

This is one of my very favorite shows, for all of the reasons expressed in these comments. Beautiful acoustic Brokedown, great organ on Me and My Uncle. Could go on and on. In any event, this is a no-brainer. Don't live without it any longer!

Chris U., If you watch this video of Easy Wind from three weeks earlier 8-30-70, Bobby is playing a Gibson ES 335 or something close to it. Jerry is on a Gibson SG. Probably the same guitars for this show, I'd guess. Too bad Bob didn't play lead ;guitar solos like this for a longer period of time, he sounds great!

The obvious answer is Barton Hall 5-8-77 - but for my money, this is it - 9-20-1970 at the Filmore East. After just the first 12 bars of Uncle John's Band - you know something special was going on. Far and away the best recording ever of Rosalie McFall. Just listen to Jerry's second solo on Sitting on Top of the World which starts at 2:12 - also, Bobby at his best here too. Enough said.

the best -well, my favorite at least- easy wind, and one of just 2-3 acoustic versions ever of my favorite gd song, brokedown palace.

this and at the very least the dark star from the night before are a must-have.

This was the last GD show I attended at the Fillmore East and one of the best. My buddy Yuzo and I flipped over the acoustic set, especially the rendition of Truckin' the definitve acoustic versions. We also caught the Sept. 17th show, which was excellent as well. Major Props to the fellows who remastered the soundboard recording. There are a few glitches in the electric set, for sure, but all in all it captures very well one of the 1970 run of great east coast shoes, six of which I attended, including 4 at the Fillmore, and a very special one at the Capitol Theater, June 24, of which there is no soundboard recording, unfortunately. People who missed these 1970 shows, or haven't listened to credible recordings of them,can't possible understand how absolutely special the atmosphere was and intimate the relationship was between the band and the audience, or, of course, how sensationally they they played.

Another solid show from a year that offered so much. To Lay Me Down is divine. I don't anticipate having favorite versions that are 'acoustic', but this one takes the cake. Jerry is in a TLMD mood after 9/19. New Speedway is masterful. Candyman doesn't drag. Sitting is really tight.
Easy Wind crackles. Sugar Mag is totally together, one of the best ever.
I think this blows away Sugar Mags of 72, 78 etc. 2/18/71 is recommended similarly.
Mama Tried is ill placed filler.

this recording is nothing short of pure ecstatic beauty....with an incredible acoustic set to boot. grisman is cookin' hard with the dead at this show...but who could be on keys?..doesnt sound like pig to my ears.

This acoustic set is fantastic, one of my favorites. But who, as was asked a couple of years ago in this thread, is playing piano? I can't even think of why there'd be a piano on stage, with the 1970 Dead and the New Riders? Neither band used a piano at the time, did they? So, there's a piano onstage, for some reason, but who's playing it? I might be crazy, but I think it might be Jerry...

familiarfan is right with one -- just one -- possible exception: 9/18/74. The version on that show is the other definitive version. ;)

While 9/18/74 is pretty darn great all the way through, I would have to say that 9/20/70 includes more of the best versions of songs.

Funny story about listening to this show with a guy who I shall refer to as "Mr. Deadhead." This guy gave me a lot of tapes and really thought he was the shit. In a way, he was the shit. So we're listening to this show and during the *first* guitar solo on Easy Wind, I say, "Man, listen to Bobby rip it up!" And Mr. Deadhead says: "That's Jerry."

Try to believe it, folks. This guy bragged about his tape collection non-stop and he couldn't even tell the difference between Jerry and Bobby.

This is one of a handful of shows that is perfect for introducing the young freak to the strange impossible sound of Bob Weir's guitar playing. China/Rider and Easy Wind especially. The recording and separation of the guitars is perfect. And Bobby is down in the friggin' dirt with the distortion. Is that a Telecaster or a Gibson SG? Someone who knows needs to tell us.

Other cool stuff: listen to the great percussion and Pig's beautiful organ playing in Me and My Uncle!


*Just noticed I hadn't added a comment about this in last four years, but I've listened to it probably a hundred times since then. A great part of what makes it about this recording is the analog nature of the source material ... including the occasionally warbling, drop-outs, etc. It's still a fascinating mix and reminds us of all that is lost from this incredible year thanks to Bear's imprisonment etc.

An absolutely awesome display of the songs on this show. The boys really amazed me and there are so many highlights I think I'm gonna pinch myself now to see if I'm still numb after listening to this. Highest praise to all those involved.

What a jazzgrass treat for the ears! Rip this one for the lost Dawg Music, a truly priceless acoustic set for the ages. I am finally discovering this after many years of trawling the archive. "Dark Hollow" as it was meant to be played, plus a beautifully dripping Ripple and a bluegrassy "Mama Tried." Rating based on 1st 5 songs, but how could this gem go wrong from here?

Ya...I remember being at that show...Brings back alot of sentiment....A Dead Show was my safe spot during tumultuous times...If I remember correctly, when the Dead went to play their electric stuff...they lowered the aoxomoxa sign....first time I saw that....

I love the acoustic sets of 1970, and this one is one of my top picks. I've downloaded this show and handed it out to a few people and they all say it's a real special show. David Grisman was apparently there on mandolin along with David Nelson on second mandolin, and I must say they sure tear it up. wish they would have done more concerts like this one. Five stars for an excellent show.

To expand on mgford25's excellent instructions on using 'DownLoadThemAll!': set a filter to the string: 'vbr.mp3' (without the single quotes) and it will strip out all but the Hi-Fi versions of the MP3 files. You'll get the entire show in a folder, ready to go, in about 1 minute (over a high-speed connection).

The SirMick remaster of this show is amazing, given the limitations of the source. Highly recommend this one over the others!

So much of my life was suffering....Listening to the Dead was one of those simple pleasures for me...the music does something to me that all these painkillers will never be able to do....

The Dead make something inside me shake and rattle...and roll and pop and bop.... I don't give a shit that I am dying when I listen to their music.....

Yeah I am pissed I gotta shove off....I have the cutest grandkids...(i AM 52) ... One of the little punks loves to work with tools.... Him and me just sit and play with all the crap I have collected over the years...He becomes 52 and I become 5 ..... He has good workworking hands.....The other two schnookie-butts are just as special to be with.....

I got a big-ass basket filled up with old harmonicas, drumsticks, and such.... We get the old guitars down and pretend we are the Dead ... They usually fight for the instruments when we jam with the Dead, even though there are tons to go around.... We all copy PigPen...his "Now, just wait a minute... Now wait a minute....Hold up now..."

So anyway, I got a freight train running through my head right now...... time to just shut-up and listen to the show....

Thanx archive people..... may all that is good and wholesome nurture that which wholesome and good..... I'll see you on the other side.....

This show is perfect. The acoustic set is unreal and full of rarities and familiars. I wonder how many times they played Ripple back in the day? Probably under ten times... This bluegrass Big Railroad is also pretty heady. David Nelson's mado contribution is fitting (it's 1970) and a nice addition. While the Truckin' kind of sounds like the studio cut, its still a unique change to hear it acoustic, with crisp and bare vocals. I wonder who is playing piano. Maybe Pig, but i'm not sure. Not TC or Keith, so who?? (anyone know). Oh yeah, and that acoustic Brokedown, a little raw and in its baby form but still so perfect. Those who were their are eternally Grateful, and those who can listen for free are as well. Thanks for re-mastering this dusty tape and giving us these rare acoustic gems that make this set up there with the likes of 1970-5-2 and 15. Never more soulful or devoted. Electric Dead might have made them the raging party that so many heads loved, but the sprit of the band lies within these moments.

Oh yeah, the electric material is also well done, with some nice throw in's (Big Boy Pete, Attics). God damn the Dead loved playing in New York and at the Fillmore East.

Wow....Great recording! I love the channel separation of the players, a cool effect not heard too often. The recording is a bit warbly in spots, but very listenable. Easy Wind kicks butt, and the acoustic Truckin' is verrrry unique. Wonderful recording, awesome performance.

For all the freaks who can't stand the idea of paying for anything that was once free, no matter how great or cheap, i spent a total of $20 dollars a year ago to buy a program to record streaming music, which i think is legal, and i've recorded several hundred hours of shows. For a dime or quarter or whatever the hell it is for some of the best live shows of one of the greatest rock bands that ever played, we're lucky as hell. I can't stand the crybaby crap. Please let it go and be grateful for what you've got. Talk about US Blues.

It was great after 30 some years to discover archive.org and then find my first Dead show here. While some gripe about the sound quality, I'm just fine with being able to listen to this show again. Hey, nothing wrong with that acoustic set is there? Great to hear them nail the vocals. Wish the New Riders set was made it to tape... they did a great "Honkey Tonk Women" that night. Also I can say for certain that Jerry played piano on "To Lay Me Down". Can't help with the Grisman question. Maybe he was there, maybe not.

I like Dead of all eras for different reasons, I'm also all for early Dead (pre '70), however, I firmly believe that this is the year when they really begin to show their talent. They begin to show the fruit of growth and maturity as musicians. They still have Pigpen, which gives them a dynamic obviously missed upon his departure from us.

Big RR Blues & Speedway are definite spotlights in a 1st set of highlights. 2nd set was killer as well with an awesome rendition of China Cat, Sitting on top of the world is off the hook, and Smags is truly alive with Jerry's distortion.

I really like this show all around, they have few mess ups (the first verse of Trukin' is all I recall) and the band sounds raw, alive, energized, and eager to play.

To me, this show is a must have and a part of a beginning, or ending, or just a door they went through from which they never returned. I think this is the Grateful Dead saying, with out realizing it, we're here to stay, we're American Rock Legends.

Hi-lights- well lest start of with what may be one of the best ever “easy wind”, and who but good old bobby on lead, yes on lead! also the whole first acoustic set is probably one of the finest played by the dead, Rosalie McFall, Brokedown Palace, NSB, and the Sittin’ on top of the world, Truckin’, Sugar Magnolia, NFA

This whole first acoustic set is one of the greatest ones i have found. The whole first set is definitely worth listening too. (In Order). A very rare early acoustic truckin’ is great and the ripple and dark hollow are too; (wish i was there) for this first set alone. But what brings this whole together in the second set is the amazing easy wind arguably one of the best ever. and what makes it so amazing is the way bobby dosen’t disappoint his leads are amazing and you feel like him and jerry are in a duel with each other, but as worthy of an opponent as jerry is bobby undoubtedly holds his own. The whole show is phenomenal and in great quality for 1970. The mandolis’t in the acoustic is said to be mr. David Grisman but arguable. The keys in the acoustic set too are great pig could sing and boy could he play that thing like his life depended on it. One of the funkiest sugar mag’s iv’e reviewed so far. Jerry's guitar has such a great distortion on that amazing sugar magnolia and boy were they on that faithful night. The not fade away is ripping and love the going down the road feeling band type jam towards the end which then you hear phil suggest a caution witch then happens after to a great extended we bid you goodnight, which i love personally short sweet song. truly a great Fillmore concert and a definite must have for the acoustic dead lover. Definitely one of the best the dead had to offer in September 1970. And imagine the audience got all this for $5.00 bucks!

This is the kind of offering that makes the existence of LAMA not just a cataloging archive, but an actual "preservation" of the audio/recording arts ... a "music archeological society."

as for the downloading soundboard stuff that is seemingly "streaming only" well, yeah, it's pretty easy to get them off your temporary internet files- the MP3's are just sitting there, waiting to be auto-erased some time down road. just copy-paste into a folder. quality is substantially better than the tapes from other sites!

Not to often do you get a good recording from the Fillmore East days but this one is fantastic.The acoustic set brings chills to my spine,listen to the tightness of these guys and their harmony together.After the early 70's you didn't hear the Dead do Easy Wind anymore with Pigpen being gone so listen carefully to this classic jam.There is no doubt that 70-73 were some of the greatest shows by the Dead.R.I.P. Jerry and Ron.

First of all many thanks to mgford25 for the download info. An even easier tool to use is free download manager. Gedt it from cnet.com. follow mg's instructions except just right click on the dl page and select download all with download manager. then just get the vbr mp3s and eliminate the rest. Really good show BTW

BTW, I don't think the band has any problems with this because the MP3 sources are clearly inferior to the lossless files already pulled. These better files are also listed on the "download" page but are forbidden to access . . .

I love this first set it is the beginning and end of an era. This is laid back, tuneful acoustic dead of the highest order. 71' would bring in the year of energizing coked out extended jams. This is just so stoney you lose yourself in tunes 5 for sure.

This is a superlative example of the Dead at their acoustical best--a performance rooted in their origins as an ecletic, fusion jug/bluegrass/blues band. How I would love to have downloadable MP3 version. Any offers?

and may i also suggest something for those of us with too much time/drugs on our hands:
open two windows side by side with the same show in each...then as quickly as you can, click on the same song in each window...then adjust the volume of each to roughly the same level and the two slightly out-of-sync streams will sound like an echo. if you start the songs too far apart it's unlistenable (or very listenable)...but if you try until you find a good delay it will turn your brain into taffy. sweet, chewy taffy. i might also point out that if you try this experiment with january 2, 1970's dark star you will hallucinate no matter how sober you are.

this acoustic set is off the f***'in chain! the cumberland, new speedway, brokedown is just sweet...and the rest is amazing as well. the easy wind is good in the electric set, as is so much more.

as is thoroughly documented below, the sound does leave something to be desired, but to whomever cleaned it up so it sounds this nice (very highly listenable), thank you.

4 for at times astonishing brilliance with sound (and frankly at times, vocal harmonizing) that could be better.

A really fantastic Cumberland Blues, also lovely versions of Ripple and Brokedown Palace.
I would be interested to know who was playing mandolin and piano here.

I love this period of transition from American Beauty & Workingman's through to the changes of 1971.

But alas only a four because of the intrusive tape hiss.

What a fantastic acoustic set. I mean good lord; Dark Hollow is played wonderfully. New Speedway-> Broken Down, that alone is a gem in itself. Ok sound but good enough to enjoy. This embodies the earlier sound of such an epic group. There are no other groups like this and there never will be. Great show and an even better setlist. 5 for the setlist.

This is the first audio cassette tape I received as a teenager. No wonder I've been obsessed with the dead for so long. Thanx to the archive for allowing me to hear it all over again and again and... What a long strange trip its been.

The boys get me through another day at work. this is just great. I love the energy when they come back on in casey jones.

This is A MUST HAVE BOOKMARKED SHOW. To crazy how this is soo beautiful i love it and I love this show. Hands down highest rank.

In my opinion, this is a no brainer. I have listened to many tapes throughout the last 11 years. This is one of my favorites! I make it a habit to think of the many heads who toured when I am enjoying a show like this. Life is a wonderful gift, and friends like y'alls are just alright:)

Bobby was playing the Gibson hollow-body ES335 (ES330?) that he played for many years back then. Jerry's playing a Gibson SG Standard. And Phil a Gibson EB3. Yup... best sound they ever had.

9-18 was my first Dead show. I had first row center in the balcony. I was a Dead Head after the first song: Casey Jones. And then the Sugar Mag that followed... whew...

...the night that my musical idol Jimi Hendrix died--too serendipitous.

This show appears to be the best of the run. The acoustic set is one of the best I've ever heard.

The Not Fade Away's were coming into their own ... culminated two months later with the other-worldly renditions at Portchester Nov. 5 and 6.

What a shame that this period -- undoubtedly one of the band's peaks -- is missing from the vault almost entirely.

So many tunes had their canonical performances during this period: China Cat-> Rider, Not Fade Away, Sugar Mag, Casey Jones, Candyman, Cold Rain & Snow, Attics, Morning Dew ... all *never* sounded better than at Portchester 11-5/6/8, Fillmore East 11-16 (aka Anderson Theatre 11/23), Winterland 10-4, and perhaps @ 46th St. Theatre (my second and third shows)-- if tapes would surface.

Thanks to all for making this possible...

The night before this show Jerry was probably still in shock at Jimi's departure so he blazed a trail across the heavens. This is a mighty fine upgrade from previous versions of this legendary show. There's much less hiss and recording levels appear to have been tweeked, even though they still seem to flucuate quite a bit. The drums are particularly mixed too high in several spots and there seems to be some tape degradation, especially in the acoustic set. With that said, this is still one hell of a hot show. Nice job cleaning this baby up. I downloaded this show with the assumption it was a high quality audience recording. That's what it's labeled but it's obviously a board. Get it while you can.

Sound Quality 5.0; Show Quality 5.0. Very nice acoustic set with TLMD & NSB. Very nice recording considering age and equipment at the time.

This show is obviously nasty...but I almost had a heart attack when I saw the files available for download! A remastered board of this quality? Incredible

To my ears, this is one of the few acoustic sets from this era that is actually listenable. Most sound like crap.

This IS classic 1970 dead. Opens with a solid acoustic set followed by a huge electric set. This is a golden download for any dead head and even for newbies. Jonathan you're the man.

The setlist is about right for almost being Valentine's.

Nice cleanup job on this show. Okay, it still doesn't sound absolutely pristine, but I don't care. Hey, these tapes are 35 years old. This is one of the best shows (performance-wise) from the second half of 1970 that I've heard. Highly recommended.

While the remaster improved upon the sound of my analog copy from back in the day, the warble and hiss remain. Great show, but a little too hissy for me to really give this high marks.

I put this version of NFA among my top three.

IMO, the NFA>Darkness>China Cat Jam>NFA sequence from the fillmore the day after Hendrix's death is probably "it" for me.

So nice to see upgrades appearing of the old classics that have been here for the past year. This show is solid with an amazing acoustic set. The electric set is one of the best of 70. O.K. the Dark Star the nigh before may put that night as one of the best too but whose counting? This NFA > Caution smokes!
The older seed was good but this one really does justice to this amazing performance. What was already a four star show is now bumped up to a five due to the work done on it! THANK YOU!!!

P.S. Don't forget to look up the new 11-8-70 Port Chester show just "remastered!" Thats the one I plan on re-visiting next :)

I think this might be my all time favorite show and this remaster is a true masterpiece!! The cds that I had before had a good amount of hiss and the later part of the electric set sounded very degraded. This fixes all of that (except for some volume fluxuation durin the later part of Caution - which is not nearly as distracting as it was before) and makes it as it should be. The acoustic set is the all time best ever and the electric set just smokes.
Throw away your old copies of this show and dowload this now!! I cannot say enough good things about the show and the improvement this remaster represents. If you've been waiting for this show to be released (I had been since I first heard just the acoustic set years ago), wait no longer!!
