Bob K., Pete H., Kevin B. and I sat(stood on chairs) 11th rowe center for this one. I swore I would never come back to Rosemont after this show, but I did. Black Peter was a treat.

I agree mostly with the review below, although I personally did not find ChinaRider to be all that inspired. And though I enjoy G&Rs cover of Knockin', it's a Bob Dylan song (aren't they all?). I loved Liberty as the 1st set closer, I think this song had a lot of potential if only they had had time to develop it.
Finally, thank you Archive for all that you do, the remaining GD members don't appreciate how much this site has kept their music alive.

This was my second show, and as such was a mojor adjustment after my 1st[6-25-92]. Anyone who has been to a Soldier Field show knows that the scene is completely off the hook, shakedown for miles, since this was what I expected at Rosemont it was a rude awakening to find security doing their best Gestapo impressions, seriously the worst ever! worse than L.A. Sports Arena! When we got to the lot at maybe, 3:30 they wanted us to wait in line until they opened the doors at 7:30. Also while this show defineately has its highlights its no 6-25-92[one of the most rockin' shows of the Vince era]. Although our seats were in the upper level, by chance me & my freind walked right down behind the SBD for the Sunshine, what a great opener, at this time in the dead scene there was a great deal of hope for the future; Jerry was taking care of himself, as a result his playing was tighter[at least until 94]. Since they had just played Sunshine for the first time since 74 this song in particular symbolises this short era of renewed life and energy in the scene. While none of the modern versions come close to the 70s ones; this version is one of the top ones from the 90s. Jerry really digs in to his solo, & the harmonies are perfect. Hows that for the first show of spring tour? Jerry breaks out the MIDI early for a rockin' Wang Dang. Speaking of rocking, this version of Loose Lucy is smokin, Jerry is all over it. About this time though I realized my dose was bunk; yet another huge difference from Soldier Field. As I remember from the show they droped the ball big time during Mexicali; you can here it here, not a very memorable version. This is the 2nd or 3rd time they played Broken Arrow, I thought it sucked at the time, my opinion hasn't changed yet. This Row Jimmy is sweet though, great MIDI flute in the jam. These are very early versions of Eternity & Liberty. It sounds like it here. A classic China>Rider opens set two. Then they dropped the ball again during Victim, it was like somebody let the air out of the jam. Again it comes through on the tape. The boys get it back together for a sweet Ship of Fools, with Jerry giving it all on guitar and vocals. A nice juicy Playin' leads into drums. I hate it when they cut out the drums/space its just as much part of the show as anything else. Wheel>Watchtower out of space, always a treat. Next up, a heartfelt Black Peter, with some furious jamming at the end. Then Bobby redeems himself for the Victim/Mexicali debacle with a great Sugar Mags, the SSDD portion being particularly meaty. I always loved Knockin for an encore, although it suprises me the boys would do a Guns&Roses song. This aud. is pretty poor; therfore I dont recomend this for anyone that wasnt there.

I seem to recall a VERY pumped up crowd at this one. Very cold in the parking lot, very heavy handed, vendor-squashing police presence. Once toasty warm inside, ready to go, and the band delivered a solid, lengthy show. The recording is classic "Rosemont Audience"--not great. But there are some highlights--"Loose Lucy" is funky, and features some blistering Jerry solo work. Rollicking "Sugar Mags" to close. Fun show, mediocre sound here. Really a 2-1/2 star.
