What might have been
Haven't heard this one for a long time, dusted it off tonight. Starts with a nice stranger, Garcia is hot, bands tight, then goes dud for TLEO and Rooster
...
(Sorry, just don't care for the tunes). Then comes Dire Wolf and we are off on one of the early 80's space cowboy sets. Garcia rages through wolf, takes it right on into Cassidy where he is on fire. Merge into Big RR and the band is kicking on all gears, just flat out stomping. Garcia is one hot ass guitarist and is picking with that extra honky-tonk pizzaz, smoking the song right into Music, which is speedy but delightful. Finish of TLEO and it's a pretty fair set by the standards of the day. Come out 2nd set, stars are emerging as night falls and whatever the Boys did backstage hasn't stopped em at all because they are just beast- a ravenous machine that smashes through TOO, Bobby howling the final verses, the band all falling chaos and glowing strokes. Roll right into a very nice eyes, Garcia is noodling like the old days, everything is wonderful and it looks like one of the shows of the year...and then Huh? Drummers kick in hard in eyes, sound like we are moving straight into drumz/space, but the band wanders on for a bit, Brent does his thing, Drumz /space and then the band just freaking mails it in from here on out. This is a what could have been show. It had the ability to be great, the band was at the top of their game, and just went sideways in the 2nd set.

Storyline
I was convinced at the time that when Brent and Bobby did 'Don't Need You', that they were directing their ire at Garcia who had left the stage rather

abruptly right in the middle of the Eyes jam. When Garcia came ot after drums and broke into "Nobody's Fault But Mine", I was sure that he was in fact apologizing.

4 STARS for Heart
I am giving this show 4 stars for an amazing setlist and the heart that is displayed throughout the show. It may not have have been the best show in town

musically, but 'Cryptical', I only wish I could have seen a JERRY Cryptical. 'Dire Wolf' is 5 stars, and 'Comes a Time' is always a treat. I wish it were still goin' on today.

All about the Love
A competent 80's show. Nothing awful and a few moments of magic. Soundboard sounds fine. Bobby lovelight rap reminds how incredible Pig was. Brent don't

need love anymore so Jerry points out there comes a time followed by the Lovelight. Maybe they were trying to tell Brent something. A sweet Baby Blue for those not going on to the Rocks and points West.

i agree cryptical was way ragged, the other one out of it positively floored me and i've yet to recover. nobody's fault but mine revived an old tune the dead had visited back in the early 70's maybe. the purple gels were real fine and somehow i made it to morrison. anyway, the show was just ok but if you were actually there you probably recall this affair fondly.

All jazzed-up
We drove from Racine Wisconsin and where the first people to arrive at the Starlight theater parkinglot. We met a law student from Stanford who had a nice
...
car audio system and we had the Frost 82 tapes playing through it mid afternoon, he gave us a Lewiston 80 tape. I was blue Gelled as well. Parking lot scene was super mellow and some folks where giving out hugs before the show.It was a clear blue sky day Bobby came out with a purple t-shirt that seemed too big for him,We had 8th row on jer's side. The 'Eyes' was incredible. There's a small lake there surrounded by trees and rocky cliffs that we found to hang out and we met some heads who lost there shoes and needed ours to buy food in a store. It was a few hours before show time and a peace loving hippy walked towards our car and I asked him what time is was..he said 'Who Cares'his words came on like a roaring semi on a highway..we where way out there........This show is probably the most unique of 1985.barely a 4 for quality but almost a five for playing. The Other One,Space,Stranger,Theylove and Eyes are amazing..and Cryptical is here too

Setlists do not tell all
This is a good show for this leg of the tour from '85 but GOOD GRIEF Jerry's voice is wasted on the Cryptical. Sorry to say but it's TERRIBLE. The Eyes
...
goes a mile a minute and passes by too quickly. Bad freebase. Bad. Bad. Good set list, mediocre performance. BTW, the best Cryptical > Other One > Cryptical happened sometime in 1969. That was probably implied by previous posts but just wanted to make that clear. Nice idea with the Cryptical breakout at the Greek, but it's a good thing there were no more Crypticals played after this show so that it wasn't dragged through the mud further. Look to the summer for better '85 shows.

Great show. Lots of energy and a hot recording. The last Cryptical, I think -- if not, it's definately the last of the '85 resurrection. If you're reassembling

the show or touching it up for your own archives, the tape flip at TMNS>Don't Ease is virtually seamless, and both tracks need to have their channels swapped. The cut in Space->Nobody's Fault is not as pretty, though.
