Dark Star
Dec. 11, 1972
Winterland Arena

Not sure if a good source was out there for this one pre-internet, Smith/Miller/Clugston cleanup is fantastic. Yeah this one can hang with any of the heavy hitter DS's. Winterland magic, this one propels itself into orbit with vigor. Pre-verse gets a little puddly with some indian influences and drones from all, left to simmer over Billy getting funkmeister, dials in for a great peak. The melt has truly primordial intensity, countered by a sense of tender meditation. not for chompers. Snakes start talking by the end of this shit.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Dec. 10, 1989
Meadowlands Arena

frantic, full of midi, Weir puts in some great rhythmic ideas to get this thing rolling. Awesome 4.1 version.

Public Hall

happy 50th to this absolute mindfuck of a version. Galaxies of deep existential agony.
Estimated Prophet
Sept. 5, 1985
Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Hammond and squishmeister, this one is frenetic from the green flag. subdued, groovin california section and soaring outro
Playin' In The Band
Nov. 17, 1973
Pauley Pavilion - University of California

happy 50th to this total Frank Gehry of a version, an accomplishment of staggering proportions, love how this one blends D modal shenanigans in and out of firey jazz and icy tender reflection.
