Billy's doing some interesting stuff on the drums here! And excellent solo from Jer! Vocals too!

74 versions really captured the western tone well. Short and sweet.

Jerry calls for Bertha then proceed to royally flub the lyrics LOL. Solid bouncy version though.

Phil and Brent really escalate the dance party factor of this tune in later years. Great performance this night. Just sheer fun. Comes to awk end.

Dark Star
Oct. 18, 1974
Winterland Arena

Six years into listening to this tune played at different venues across every year and I don't know that I've heard a Dark Star that is bigger or more grand than this one. Those first 7 minutes or so are truly something otherworldly. Every other factor aside (I'm not saying this is the best DS), this one, for me, takes the cake in specific terms of "bigness." This one is gargantuan. No, I don't have anything quantifiable to back this up. Just a feeling. Utterly conjectural. I like how MiTfan3^ says it feels like the last one. It does. In fact, it starts to feel like the last thing. Ever.

One of the best. The coolest part is when Keith starts laying down that insanely jazzy riff about 8 minutes in so delicately. Wonderful

Excellent Scarlet, quintessential fire, hypnotically powerful stuff from Donna & Garcia in the transition. An essential Scarlet Fire to be sure.

Oh wow oh wow. This may be my new favorite. It has every little thing I could ask for. Keith comes in beautifully. Weir is inspired. Garcia sounds great. Country rocking stuff. What a good one. BIG upvote!!!
