Fine, soulful performance. Garcia sings "in a world time forgot" instead of "that guitars never caught." Alternate lyric they maybe wanted to put.

Thelma Theater

A real low and slow, broody performance here. Good, easy listening Eleven.

Some real fine jamming here.

This one is absolutely banging. Garcia is sitting on this one right where he needs to be. Keith is adding the perfect sparkles where he needs to. Drum fills are great. Donna sounds nice. Well deserved spot at the top of this list.

Barring all of the other absolutely beautiful and unbelievable madness that happens during this tune, I really love the phaser that Weir throws onto his guitar for this one. Fucking awesome.
New Minglewood Blues

Barton Hall - Cornell University

I used to quietly gripe about this one being at the top. Not remotely someone who likes suspend disbelief & pretend Cornell isn't one of the best shows ever, but this one was always just another '77 Minglewood to me. Then one random listen today made me think "damn, maybe this has really been the best ever all along." Keith & Garcia are laying down some absolutely bonkers lines to open up this show. Drums are on fire. Phil is riding the wave so precisely, but with an immense amount of energy I almost can't believe it. Weir's vox couldn't be better.
