One of those note-for-note perfect versions that leave you staggered and smiling. Just beautiful.

Not a song I usually get so swept up by, but on this one Jer's vocals are just perfect, capturing the sweetness and sorrow of the lyrics. A beaut.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Oct. 28, 1972
Cleveland Public Hall
High-powered and tight. This show has nothing but complaints about the mix on the archive. Listen to the Ashley transfer, and see what you've missed.

Tomorrow Is Forever
Oct. 27, 1972
Veterans' Memorial Hall
Such sweet harmony, such sweet sentiment - turning on a dime after the white-hot Dew. Shows the beautiful country chops Donna at her best brought.

Nobody's Fault But Mine
Oct. 27, 1972
Veterans' Memorial Hall
Jam starts at around 05:45, never fully forms. Am I crazy? This sounds like NFBM and it continues about 3min into TOO. Very very cool stuff here.

Sugaree
Aug. 21, 1972
Berkeley Community Theater
Tighter and stronger than a lot of the gnarly 15+ minute versions out there: This is a solid sweet rocker with a swinging pulse and just enough swagger.
He's Gone
Aug. 21, 1972
Berkeley Community Theater
This and the two versions right before are just top shelf. Seems like they'd hit a stride on He's Gone and enjoyed working it up to a higher level. The concentrated greatness reminds me somehow of Wharf Rat in the summer of '74 (if you don't know, then do please go and check that out...), or Dancing in the Streets in Fall '76.
Friend of the Devil
Aug. 21, 1972
Berkeley Community Theater
A funny mix, but it does allow you to hear Keith's master-class in honkytonk, which was too often a bit hidden in the SBDs of this era.
Black Throated Wind
Aug. 21, 1972
Berkeley Community Theater
May just be my favorite version. This one has it all.
The Other One
Aug. 20, 1972
San Jose Civic Auditorium
Listen to this now. Criminally under-rated here, maybe owing to the show's bad sound for the first tracks. This is a brilliant, exploratory and melodic jam that should be much more well-known. The AUD patch does not detract from the overall power of this one.
