Ain't It Crazy (The Rub)
July 12, 1970
Fillmore East
A mellow acoustic version unlike any I the others more known for being uptempo and somewhat aggressive. A rare treat.

Not Fade Away
July 11, 1970
Fillmore East
Vast and expansive, with hints of Mountain Jam peppered throughout and a brilliant tug-of-war over whether to go into TOO. Needs a cleanup.

Cold Jordan
July 11, 1970
Fillmore East
Sounds like Dave and Marmaduke came out mid-song to warm up for the NRPS set. Don't like acoustic AUD, don't bother. Like it? Oh baby, it's good.

Rosalie McFall
July 11, 1970
Fillmore East
First ever, and with 45 years between us and then, it's like a sweet whisper in AUD beauty. Real stuff here.

New Speedway Boogie

Fillmore East
Superb, a distant reach-out from the AUDmurk of time. A special treat here.

Bird Song
July 18, 1972
Rossevelt Stadium
Crunchy power-vibe to this one. Doesn't quite have the floating, mesmerizing effect of some others, but instead a more hard-rocking feel. Special.

Sing Me Back Home
May 26, 1972
Strand Lyceum
This is perfect in every way. I don't know what bug crawled up someone's ass to turn this into a way to talk smack about Pigpen, but whatevs. Pig adds a beautiful mellow and understated whooshing touch behind the perfect harmonies. There's a reason they played it together, guy.
Morning Dew
May 26, 1972
Strand Lyceum
Hearing this in it's total sequence is so mind-bendingly glorious that I can't imagine why it took me so long to get back to this one. What a goddamned triumph to what was arguably the most consistently brilliant tour of their history.
The Other One
May 26, 1972
Strand Lyceum
Dude420 is 100% right. This is their farewell kiss-of-weird to Europe. The band was never the same again, and here's a love letter.
