Dark Star
June 24, 1973
Memorial Coliseum

Subtle(!) melodic inventiveness, slow boil for 27 minutes, nice channel separation between Bob and Jerry, Phil solo. A forgotten Dark Star.

Very hot energy and great soloing, plus it goes into an epic Dark Star. Forgotten concert: But the boys hotted this one up big time.

Short and sweet with lots of character. This show has mix / sound issues, but is quite worth the listen.

Listen past some sound quality problems for a sweet, thoughtful version - especially the outro.

The boys ripped out some shit-kickin' high energy shredding on this one.

Jerry pours it on. The vocals are some of his most energetic ever.

A wild ride to open the set. Jerry knocks it out of the park with his tone as metallic and sharp as it ever was. Hot version.

Very well mixed on the E72 complete set. The sound is just perfect, with every instrument ringing clear. Killer transition here. And the whole first set just rocks from minute one.

Perfect emotional arc to the lyrics, captures the essence of this song.
The Other One

Can't believe I hadn't already voted for this mega-monster. Very heavy jams and a wild edge-of-madness ride between the extraordinarily virtuoso and the random meltdown so present in the best that '74 has to offer. Sounds like Ned Lagin is sitting in for part of it? I hear wild electronica all over from about 09:00 in.
