Simmers, yes, but also tweaks, gronks, facemelts, reduces the cosmos to a vibrating ping pong ball, and slingshots your mind through a Mickey-gong wave of endless return. This Dark Star sounds almost '73-'74 in its meltdown, and should be much much higher. There's also a beautiful melodic jam about 23 minutes in that sounds somehow between a FGJ and a Mountain Jam, but doesn't quite coalesce. Don't overlook it.

Right on Beavernugs. Starting with the New Orleans shows - and the departure of Tom C. after Hawaii - they develop a grittier grungy swamp rock sound alongside the emerging and better-remembered bluegrass/country. This show (the Smokestack is outrageous) and this SOTOTW display it nicely.

Explosive power on this one. Pig on organ swhooshes and soars over Phil and the Devils laying down some deep voodoo. And Jerry's just blazing away like finger fire. Don't overlook this show.
