Cumberland Blues
Dec. 15, 1971
Hill Auditorium
Joyful chaos: A brilliant splatter. Bobby's voice never sounded so good to me as it did in '71.

Pigpen at his best with the band at its grit-in-the-gears crunchiest. They were on this night and this one is just full of butt.

Very passionate version, some distortion or tape speed issues (?) remind me of my cassette trading days and bring out the trippiness to the song.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Dec. 12, 1973
Omni Coliseum
If this hard grooving China jam and Feeling Groovy transition doesn't just get you moving, then nothing can. Just perfect.

First version ever is real nice... but listen to the soundcheck version for insight into the bands working dynamics. Cool to hear them working on it.

Oregon State Prison
Hey modernhead 1995, you got a link for Jerry playing Oregon State Prison or some way to check this out, because fuckin' a, brother, but I'd listen to that.... Sure this is a GD site and all, but acoustic Jerry in a lockup sounds like some sounds I'd like to hear. Post a link and help a brother out.... Peace from the Carrion Crow.
Attics of My Life
Sept. 20, 1970
Fillmore East
This show is so full of gems and ultimates (arguably the finest FoTD ever recorded), that this beauty can easily get overlooked. Sweet sweet harmonies in the electric set. Ahhhhhhhh, 1970, what a bonus year....
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Sept. 20, 1970
Fillmore East
The China Cat is perfectly executed. Pristine, releasable quality jam here.
Friend of the Devil
Sept. 20, 1970
Fillmore East
May just be the best version ever performed.
Rosalie McFall
Sept. 20, 1970
Fillmore East
My oh my, but that's some sweet and good old GD right there. There really is something extra special about the 1970 sound, the deeply intimate mellow places they could evoke so sweetly with an acoustic set, then mixed up with the as dark-and-heavy as can be ferocity of the electric. Go from Ripple or Rosalie here straight into the Caution/Feedback mind-melter: There was definitely some strong mojo driving the band back then.....
