Brown Eyed Women
Sept. 12, 1973
William and Mary College Hall
Sweet and melodious. Jer sings it from the heart and the band is really tight.

Dark Star
Sept. 11, 1973
William and Mary College Hall
Moody, mellow, then into an explosive but still sparse jam (all before the verse). Colossal Phil then blows your mind and speakers. Excellent.

Big River

Very uptempo and fun with some great solos. Good energy.

Let It Grow

Surpirse not to see this here yet. Martin Fierro guests on sax and the short-lived horn section sounds great. A treat with historical importance.

Playin' In The Band
Sept. 11, 1973
William and Mary College Hall
Ending a first set that seems more '76 than '73 (slow grooves), this one finally gets off the leash and into a great jam.

He's Gone

Salt Palace
Stand-alone is right. The outro is like few other, and the good-times feeling gets almost religious.
Jack Straw

Salt Palace
Hey Jack_a_Straw, we're both diggin' DP 28 today? Fuck yeah, brother, Feb. '73 is one month full of top-shelf Dead. These are just glorious shows, eh? Peace. Plus this version kicks serious butt. Deserves a much higher rating.
Greatest Story Ever Told
Feb. 26, 1973
Pershing Municipal Auditorium
GSET is a great vehicle for Jerry's most shreddingly headiest speedjamming. This one goes the distance. Should be even higher.
Big River
Feb. 26, 1973
Pershing Municipal Auditorium
Takes a lot for a Big River to raise an extra eyebrow, but this one has it. Check out Keith's work throughout. He's freakin' brilliant, and yep, Jerry's on fire. This is track 11 on Disc 1 for DP 28. Definitely the 26th, not the 28th.
Playin' In The Band
Feb. 26, 1973
Pershing Municipal Auditorium
Beyond description. '73 is full of great and deep Playin's and this one kicks off beautifully. The only reason it's so low is because there isn't any streaming available for it - not a question of love at all, cause it's really all that.... I finally picked up DP 28 and holy fuckballs, this one is a mindbender.
