Lazy Lightnin' -> Supplication
June 28, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

High energy and zigzagging, this is a fast one. Supplication is tons of fun, even if they don't quite stick the landing.

Looks Like Rain
June 28, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

Brilliant rise to a climactic finish. Jerry soloing like a man possessed behind sweet Bobby/Donna '76 harmonies. Nice one.

Promised Land

Auditorium Theatre

Up and jumping show opener from the first note. Keith's solo is brilliant.

Samson and Delilah
June 27, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

Way up tempo, sparkling and crispy with enough of both the gospel saint and the heretic sinner to make this one much fun. The '76s are just brilliant.

Whole lot of fun here. Sounds like they meant it on this one. Closes out a great first set.

I Know You Rider
Sept. 16, 1966
Avalon Ballroom

Do my ears deceive me or is Pigpen part of the ensemble vocals? That would be a rare thing indeed. I love the Nashville/Bakersfield sound here to this arrangement and Jerry is just brilliant throughout.
Viola Lee Blues

P.N.E. Garden Auditorium

Was there anyone else on the scene extending jams like this in '66? Even aside from the Acid Tests and the psychedelic pop, they were so freakin' on at this point.

Plus one for "jitterbug". So right!
Cream Puff War

P.N.E. Garden Auditorium

Truly fantastic indeed. You can fully hear how they ripped Caution out of Cream Puff War in the years ahead. Also: Billy is a goddamned monster on this.
Sitting on Top of the World

Completely bonkers. Sounds like ten-thousand rubber pingpong balls shot through a particle accelerator.
