Greatest Story Ever Told
Feb. 23, 1974
Winterland Arena
Electrifying and high-power jams, with some of the weirdest sounds Donna ever made. Great fun and a wild ride.

Surf Punk! Never thought I'd hear California surfer thrash so clearly in the Dead, but here it is: Bobby as primordial punk rocker? Why not?

Are you kidding me? This is just blazingly good. Jerry's on fire, vocals and axe. Too good for words.

Solid and sweet, with some beautiful slide solos and nice vocals, Donna included.

Black Throated Wind

A powerful triumph, just exploding with intense jamming and emotion. Real dynamite here.

St. Stephen
Oct. 9, 1976
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Stadium
Makes you wonder how it was knowing that the Who were on next at this show. Seems like they were driven with intensity and purpose throughout the show, maybe a kind of musical assertiveness: "You come to our turf... top that!" kind of friendly competition. Jerry also jokes in an interview at one point about how The Who were a tough act to follow at Woodstock.
They Love Each Other

Absolutely in agreement. With DP33 repackaging this show there should be a lot more attention to it! This one is just perfect, and the whole show has outrageous energy.

Sizzling and crisp, up tempo, with great vox and back up from Bobby and Donna Jean. Yep, this is a big thumbs up.
Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Stadium
Nonoyolker's perfect comment. From note one this showcases the no-note out of place pristine musicianship that some are characterising as the '77 sound. Great high energy show here.
New Minglewood Blues

They just got better and better from the new debut in July, and this one tops the year (so far). Ballsy, full of swagger, lots of stank nasty on Bobby's snarl. Heaps of fun.
