He's Gone
Aug. 12, 1972
Sacramento Memorial Auditorium
Sweet outro on this one. Donna's got the sweet harmony and Phil with the bass vox makes it pretty kind.

Me and My Uncle
Aug. 12, 1972
Sacramento Memorial Auditorium
MAMU is so often overlooked, but this one is hiding in plain sight. Hard jumpin' rocker here with a savage pulse, and great banter after.

Sugar Magnolia
July 26, 1972
Paramount Theater
After the ultra-outre Dark Star, this pure rock and roll distillate is just perfect goodness. A burner with Billy hard charging in 4-wheel drive.

You Win Again
July 26, 1972
Paramount Theater
Note for note perfect. The only reason it isn't here yet is that the shows between Europe and Berkeley/Veneta are too often overlooked.

Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
July 25, 1972
Paramount Theater
Possibly the highest energy piece in the whole show. An excellent jam that left the crowd smiling, for certain.

Cold Rain and Snow

Orpheum Theatre
I'm with Crackstraw here. One of the best of the Summer tour. Donna does indeed sound amazing - showing what a little attention to mic'ing and mixing correctly could do for the whole band. CRS was always my favorite show opener, it just feels so uniquely Dead.
The Other One
July 14, 1976
Orpheum Theatre
Relatively rare in '76, this is the first one since the hiatus. Jerry and Keith are in perfect sync, and chase each other around the jam in a wild, slithering race.
Wharf Rat
July 14, 1976
Orpheum Theatre
Deliberate is a good term for it. After a speedy and scattered Let it Grow (Bobby's chews up the lyrics), Jerry takes over the transition and somehow both spins higher and higher, while bring the band together, slows, them down, catches a breath, and lands on this intensely focused Wharf Rat,
Playin' In The Band
July 14, 1976
Orpheum Theatre
But dude, if you believe Bobby when he tells you it's someone's birthday, I've got a bridge to sell you! That's some Prankster voodoo trickery, man.
