Born Cross Eyed
Feb. 3, 1968
Crystal Ballroom
Wild and scrambled with lots of hooting and yelping. Lots of scary fun on this rare gem folks, with a Spanishy jam at the end.

China Cat Sunflower
Feb. 3, 1968
Crystal Ballroom
Killer power bridging Dark Star into an atomic The Eleven. Not kidding, but all the early ones belong up here to spread more heads into '68 Dead.

Not Fade Away
Feb. 11, 1970
Fillmore East
High-energy and very tight. Opens (?) an immortal show with a big bang. Great clear sound quality, too.

The Other One
Feb. 11, 1970
Fillmore East
Super-charged, but unfortunately incomplete. From the era when TOO took over from Cryptical, but this reprise has surprising power: PHIL.

Cold Rain and Snow
Dec. 28, 1969
International Speedway
Explosive and uptempo with a high-pressure energy that blows the tubes.

Sing Me Back Home

Baltimore Civic Center
Yeah, this is one of the best. Doesn't drag at all, vocals in great shape. Beautiful version.
I Know You Rider
Nov. 3, 1965
Golden State Studios
The most Kingston Trio-ish I've ever heard them sound. What fun. Haven't listened to this in a while, but the comment on "Can't Come Down" brought me here. Cool stuff.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

Baltimore Civic Center
Glad you dig it, darkstar67. The whole second set is balls-to-the wall, with some grit and power.
Playin' In The Band
Sept. 17, 1972
Baltimore Civic Center
Keith's work here is superb. He and Jerry are in perfect mind meld. This period for Playin' is such an embarrassment of riches, how could you choose just one favorite? I love how this one finds a beautiful quiet spot mid-way in, gives Billy and Phil some space, then comes sizzling back in like waves of heat off a burning meteor.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

The comments are spot on. The punchiness on this one gives in a powerful driven feel. Almost sounds like a musical argument in places: right after the last lyrics in CC, it sounds to me like Jerry tried to pull out a minor variation the Phil vetoed. Anyone else hear it?
