Cryptical Envelopment
Jan. 30, 1970
The Warehouse

The intro isn't much, but the outro just swells up and hits you in the head like a bag of hammers. Explosive power. Outrageous.

The Other One

Massive crunching slammer. Wrongfully ignored show. Hot Cryptical outro, too.

Good Lovin'

The Warehouse

Why is this classic and historically important show ignored? They sound great here. Enjoy.

Easy Wind

Smokey gut-bucket blooze. Damned fine.

Great vocals and wild harmony with a sweet jam from an historically important show.

Beautiful harmonies on the vocal here. Nice and tight energy.
Playin' In The Band
May 16, 1972
Theatre Hall

I think lining up the Playin's from '71 until the hiatus is a good a study as any into how the band kept evolving. E72 is one of my favorite eras from it too, and this one doesn't disappoint. Nosiree: It starts off a bit mellow and then builds a good head of steam. By minute six or so it's got the force of a rocket. Good pick.

Way solid: One of those building and building versions that comes to a huge climax with everyone hitting it at once. Bravo.

Lille Fairgrounds

Keith, Billy, and Phil are in perfect synchronous mindmeld underneath Jer's note-for-note masterwork.
The Other One
May 13, 1972
Lille Fairgrounds

This one left some scars in Lille: At times it's like the mother of all freak-outs by that friend who some friend brought and who had no business eating all that chemistry. Then spontaneously it's the soundtrack to another f'in movie and you're watching your own mind from another one, T h e O t h e r O n e to be precise. There's a hint of Spanish to it for a bit, but man they just went completely off the chain here. The whole show is a pleasure, not a false step anywhere.
