Me and My Uncle
Dec. 31, 1971
Winterland Arena
Intensity encapsulated in the middle of a TOO jam outta this world. Here's as good an example of the cowboy psychedelicore Winter '71 as you can find.

Me and Bobby McGee
Dec. 15, 1971
Hill Auditorium
A bit faster and carried along with a strong backbeat from Mr. K. makes this one special. Perfect ensemble singing arrangement too.

Pigpen, Chuck Berry, Santa Claus, because fuck yeah, that's why.

Not Fade Away
Dec. 10, 1971

Dec '71 NFA-GDTRFB-NFAs are all powerful statements of the band's essential unity. I love how China Cat peaks out atcha during the jams.

Morning Dew
Feb. 24, 1974
Winterland Arena
Yeah guys, this is the one for me too. Almost ready to make me some of those mythic fake accounts just to vote for it again and again.... Peace to one and all from an old head happy to see this one up here again. !!!
Sugar Magnolia
Sept. 20, 1970
Fillmore East
Compare this to the capitol theater shows just a few months earlier (I'm thinking of the amazing 24 June show), when Sugar Mag was still embryonic, and you can see just how fast the '70 concept was evolving. Sugar Mag goes from an idea to a fully formed song on the road, and by mid-September it's already this beautiful monster.
Truckin'
Sept. 20, 1970
Fillmore East
Can anyone point out another version or set when Bobby's voice sounded so good? Maybe it's the perfect mix, the warm acoustics, the intimate setting, or whatnot, but I can't think of anything that comes close to his mellow melodicism and lyrical beauty on this whole acoustic set.
Rosalie McFall
Sept. 20, 1970
Fillmore East
I'm with you hvd on putting this up there as one of the best acoustic sets ever. Hell, this whole run is just unbelievable, but they just seem so dialed in on all levels at this show.
Turn On Your Love Light
Sept. 19, 1970
Fillmore East
From the immortal Dark Star until the final "fuck" after this Love Light, this is just simply a spectacular show. Pity the acoustic set and the first half of the electric are in such rough condition.
