Sugaree
June 22, 1974
Jai-Alai Fronton

One of the (for me) rare versions of Sugaree that never drags, but keeps building and building with great intensity.

Pure sweetness.

Rambler Room

Great feeling and beautiful acoustic Dead harmonies at their best.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Nov. 17, 1978
Rambler Room

Gorgeous acoustic version in a superb gem of a concert. Jer's voice is perfect, the emotional arc soars. A mini masterpiece.

Stanley Theater

Wait for it, then run in fear from it. The boys had something ferocious in mind here.

To Lay Me Down
Aug. 5, 1970
Golden Hall - San Diego Community Concourse

2nd one ever, and it's a bit slower than the pace they'd settle on later. Still, this is a beautiful version from one of the warmest and most intimate acoustic sets of 1970. It's like drifting in and out of a lucid dream to the sound of a familiar and sweet lullaby.

May be the best version out there.

The Matrix

As gorgeous as they come. Problems in the mix throughout the source (saturated by high bass levels) don't detract from this glory.
Turn On Your Love Light
July 16, 1970
Euphoria Ballroom

Janis Joplin guests and it's amazing. From the first note to the last, you can tell just how well she fit with Pigpen. They're cracking each other up, and can't wait to take their clothes off and fuck. Listen to it, then tell me you disagree. She even sez, "You gotta work for it... I'm tired of these hippy jack-offs."
How Long Blues

Euphoria Ballroom

Setlists.net lists five performances, four in 1970 plus the '89 show listed below. What a simple, sweet tune. Any JG solo fans out there know if this was in rotation? Did Old and In The Way perform it?
